Crowthers is an Australian coach charter coach company in Sydney. Until January 2009 it operated route bus services in the Sutherland Shire. History In the early 1900s, S Crowthers and Sons Pty Ltd established a small bus service in Thirroul, New South Wales, Thirroul eventually expanding further south to Dapto. In 1952 Crowthers began operations in Sydney purchasing route 65 that operated between Cronulla railway station and Cronulla, New South Wales, South Cronulla from Ryder & Moore. Transdev NSW is a bus operator in the northern, southern and western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, operating on behalf of Transport for NSW. It is a subsidiary of Transdev Australasia. It is a different subsidiary to Transdev John Holland, which is 75% owned by Transdev and operates in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. With origins tracing back to February 1935, Transdev NSW was renamed from Veolia Transport NSW in July 2013 after the global rebranding of its parent company Veolia Transdev to simply Transdev. During this time, Transdev Shorelink, another Transdev bus operation in Sydney, was absorbed into Transdev NSW. Between November and December 2022, after a competitive tendering process, Transdev NSW was unsuccessful in retaining all of its existing bus operations. Since 2005, the government has moved from individual contracts with operators to larger contract regions, leading to the consolidation of bus operators. History In February 2004 the Unsworth Review of Bus Services conducted by former Transport Minister and Premier Barrie Unsworth, reported its findings to the Carr Government, recommending that the number of contract areas that existed in Sydney be reduced from 87 to 15 with a lead entity identified for each region to negotiate a contract. Tiger Tours was an Australian coach charter company in Sydney. Until October 2011, Tiger Tours was known as Caringbah Bus Service, and operated route bus services in Sydney Bus Region 11, in Sutherland Shire. History The company started in 1942, when Keith Wood bought route 50, which operated between Caringbah and Miranda with diversions to Taren Point as well. The Taren Point diversion was sold to Sutherland Bus Service in May 1955. The name Caringbah Bus Service was introduced later that year. In 1992, the company bought a portion of South Western Coach Lines' route 114 (Miranda – Caringbah) and merged it with its route 50. Australian Pacific Touring (APT) is an Australian tour and river cruising operator with worldwide reach. History Alfred William (Bill) McGeary was born in 1900 in Victoria. A fitter and turner by trade, McGeary bought, re-built and sold cars and motorcycles. After moving to the country, McGeary worked as foreman for Queen's Bridge Motors, a Warracknabeal garage. The foundations of APT were laid in 1924 when McGeary converted his tray truck into a bus and joined with other enterprising operators to transport commuters left stranded by an extended cable-tram strike in Melbourne's northern suburbs. Sutherland is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Sutherland is located 26 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is the administrative centre for the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. History There are two theories for the origin of the Sutherland name: * It is suggested that the name was taken from able seaman Forby Sutherland, who died on Captain Cook's ''Endeavour'' voyage. Engadine, New South Wales
Engadine is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Engadine is located south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. History The area was reserved for a national park in 1879, but in 1890 Charles McAlister was able to purchase land here which became known as McAlister’s Estate. After an overseas trip, the family renamed their estate ‘Engadine’ after the Engadin Valley in Switzerland. The wildflowers in the valley here and surrounding national parks were reminiscent of the valley and hills in Engadin. Charles McAlister subdivided his land sometime after 1900. He continued to live in Engadine but later moved to Cronulla, where he died in 1915. Originally settled for grazing land, Engadine soon became a destination for camping and day-trips from the inner-Sydney suburbs.
