Crown American is a privately held American company that manages and develops commercial real estate. The corporate headquarters is in downtown Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in a building designed by architect Michael Graves. History The company was founded in 1950 as Crown Construction. Frank J. Pasquerilla, who joined less than a year later, became president in 1956 and sole owner in 1961. The company's name was changed to Crown American in 1972 and in 1979 it acquired the Hess's department store chain. In 1993, the company split into two entities. The shopping mall portion of the company became a publicly held real estate investment trust, Crown American Realty Trust, and Crown American Hotels controlled the company's hospitality businesses. The Point at Carlisle Plaza (formerly Carlisle Plaza and Carlisle Plaza Mall) is a shopping mall located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It is anchored by Dunham's Sports and Lowe's. History Carlisle Plaza was built as an open-air shopping plaza in 1964, with backing from David Javitch, founder of Giant Food Stores, and his son, Lee, who would soon become president and CEO of Giant. Under the ownership of Crown American Realty Trust (then called Crown Construction Company), plans were announced in 1968 for an expansion of the plaza into an enclosed mall. Viewmont Mall
Viewmont Mall is a shopping mall located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It is anchored by JCPenney, Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods / Field & Stream, and HomeGoods. History Viewmont Mall cost $10 million to construct and the original anchors included Grant's, JCPenney and Sears. Sears opened first at the mall in February 1968, with JCPenney later opening in October. Grant's closed at the Viewmont Mall in 1976 and was replaced by Hess's the same year. North Hanover Mall is a shopping mall in Hanover, Pennsylvania. It is anchored by Dick's Sporting Goods, Burlington, and Rural King. History The mall opened in 1967 as an open-air strip including W.T. Grant, Town & Country (a discount chain then owned by Lane Bryant), Sears, and Food Fair.
