Cross Movement Records
Cross Movement Records is an American-based Christian hip hop record label founded by The Cross Movement. CMR, founded in 1997, had an agreement with BEC Recordings. In 2005 they made a license agreement with Reach Records' Lecrae. CMR was to release his first three solo albums. Hence solidifying the label's span of music, including Da' T.R.U.T.H. and the Cross Movement for the East Coast, and the Midwest with the artists FLAME and J.R. In 2006 a new imprint was made, Issachar Recordings, meant to release albums with different musical styles than hip hop. The first album of the label was Michelle Bonilla's R&B album: "Phenomenal" (2006). In 2007, the hip-hop duo Everyday Process was added to the CMR roster as well as Rhyme Council artist, R-Swift. In 2010 CMR signed K-Drama, Philadelphia artist Young Joshua, and DJ group Level 3:16. Christian Hip Hop
Christian hip hop (originally gospel rap, also known as Christian rap, gospel hip hop or holy hip hop) is a subgenre of contemporary Christian music and hip hop music. It emerged from urban contemporary music and Christian media in the United States during the 1980s. Christian hip hop music first emerged on record in 1982 with a track entitled "Jesus Christ (The Gospel Beat)" by Queens, New York artist McSweet. The first full-length, Christian hip hop album, ''Bible Break'', by Oklahoma artist Stephen Wiley, was released in 1985 with the title track becoming a hit on Christian radio in 1986. Other early Christian hip recording artists from the mid-1980s included P.I.D. (Preachas in Disguise), who recorded to funky rock rhythms, as well as JC & the Boys and Michael Peace. Young Joshua is an American Christian hip hop recording artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Joshua is signed to the Christian hip hop label Cross Movement Records and has released one studio album entitled ''Thinking Out Loud'' which reached 23 on the Gospel Billboard Charts in 2010. Nelson J. Chu (September 16, 1976 – August 14, 2016), known professionally as DJ Official, was an American Christian hip hop DJ. He was a member of the Christian hip hop collectives 116 Clique and The Cross Movement. Early life DJ Official was born Nelson J. Chu, in The Bronx, on September 16, 1976. He lived in Brooklyn during his childhood and later in Amityville, Long Island. Brady Goodwin Jr. (born December 2, 1976), better known by his stage name Phanatik, is an American East Coast rapper and author who has recorded both independently and as a founding member of the two time Grammy-nominated Christian rap group The Cross Movement.
