Cross-country Skiing At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Women's Sprint
The women's freestyle sprint cross-country skiing competition in the free technique at the 2014 Sochi Olympics took place on 11 February at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex. Qualification An athlete with a maximum of 100 FIS distance points (the A standard) will be allowed to compete in both or one of the event (sprint/distance). An athlete with a maximum 120 FIS sprint points will be allowed to compete in the sprint event and 10 km for women or 15 km for men provided their distance points do not exceed 300 FIS points. NOC's who do not have any athlete meeting the A standard can enter one competitor of each sex (known as the basic quota) in only 10 km classical event for women or 15 km classical event for men. They must have a maximum of 300 FIS distance points at the end of qualifying on 20 January 2014. The qualification period began in July 2012. Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex
The Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex (russian: Лыжно-биатлонный комплекс «Лаура») is a skiing venue located on the crests and slopes of Psekhako Ridge in Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. For the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2014 Winter Paralympics, Paralympics in neighboring Sochi, it hosted the biathlon and the cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing portion of the Nordic combined events. Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen
Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen (born 22 January 1987) is a Norwegian cross-country skier and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She skis with the IL Heming club in Oslo, near Holmenkollen. Her greatest achievement is winning the gold medal in sprint at the 2007 World Championships. On 22 April 2020, she announced her retirement from cross-country skiing in favour of medical studies. Career Before 2006/07 season Prior to the 2006/07 season Jacobsen had competed in five World Cup events, three sprint races and two pursuits. One sprint in Drammen in the 2004/05 season and the rest at the end of the 2005/06 season. Her best result in those races was a 10th place in the freestyle sprint in Changchun, China where she lost in the semi final, having had the third best qualifying time. Aurore Jéan (née Cuinet; born 25 June 1985 in Besançon) is a French cross-country skier who has competed since 2005. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she finished sixth in the 4 × 5 km relay, 15th in the 30 km, 24th in the individual sprint, 32nd in the 7.5 km + 7.5 km double pursuit event, and 47th in the 10 km event. Laurien van der Graaff (born 14 October 1987) is a Swiss, former cross-country skier. Career Born in the Netherlands to Dutch parents, she has dual citizenship. Her family moved to Switzerland when she was four. Van der Graaff competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for Switzerland. She placed 20th in the qualifying round in the sprint, advancing to the quarterfinals. She then finished 5th in that quarterfinal, failing to advance. Jessie Diggins
Jessica Diggins (born August 26, 1991) is an American cross-country skier. She and teammate Kikkan Randall won the United States' first ever cross-country skiing gold medal at the Winter Olympics in the team sprint in 2018. At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Diggins won the silver medal in the 30 kilometer freestyle and the bronze medal in the individual sprint, making her the most decorated American cross-country skier of all time. She also won four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships from 2013 to 2017. In 2021, Diggins clinched the top spot in the women's overall standings for the 2020–21 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, becoming the first American to do so.
