Cross-country Skiing At The 2002 Winter Olympics – Women's 2 × 5 Kilometre Pursuit
The 2 × 5 kilometre pursuit cross-country skiing competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, United States, was held on 24 February at Soldier Hollow. This competition consisted of two races. The first race was a 5 kilometre classical race and the second was a 5 km freestyle pursuit where the competitors started based on their times from the classical race. The winner was the first competitor to cross the finish line in the second race. The race This event was changed in 2002 as the short-distance classical event no longer was used as the first section of the event. Rather the event was skied in two sections on the same day, with classical skied first, followed by the freestyle pursuit, both sections now over 5 km. Soldier Hollow is a cross-country ski venue located at the mouth of a Soldier Hollow (Utah), hollow of the same name about southeast of Salt Lake City in Wasatch Mountain State Park in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah, Wasatch County, Utah, United States. Gabriella Paruzzi
Gabriella Paruzzi (born 21 June 1969 in Udine) is a retired Italian cross-country skier who competed from 1991 to 2006 and formerly skied with the G.S. Forestale. She skied in World Cup events, and won the Women's Overall World Cup in 2004. Equipment She was sponsored by Rossignol, and skied with Rossignol X-IUM skis for both skate and classic disciplines. Her boots were also named Rossignol X-IUM's, and the bindings are Rottefella R3's. Valentyna Yevhenivna Shevchenko ( uk, Валентина Євгенівна Шевченко) (born 2 October 1975 in Nosivka Raion) is a Ukrainian former cross-country skier who competed in the World Cup between the 1993–94 season and the 2016–17 season. Career She won the bronze medal in the 30 km event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec. Her career has been marred by doping convictions: as a cross-country skier, she was involved but not suspended in a doping scandal and in 2003 she was suspended two years for doping use.
