Cross-country Skiing At The 2002 Winter Olympics – Women's 10 Kilometre Classical
The women's 10 kilometre classical cross-country skiing competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, United States, was held on 12 February at Soldier Hollow. Each skier started at half a minute intervals, skiing the entire 10 kilometre course. The defending Olympic champion was the Russia Larisa Lazutina, who won in Nagano, but the 10 kilometre event was then held as a pursuit. The race Early in the race, Norwegian Bente Skari was well behind Russian Olga Danilova. Danilova led by over 15 seconds at 5.8 km, but Skari had closed to within 10 seconds at 8.7 km. Norway's Skari finished strongly, defeating Danilova to win by 2 seconds. The bronze medal went to russian Yuliya Chepalova, the 2000-01 World Cup champion. Soldier Hollow is a cross-country ski venue located at the mouth of a Soldier Hollow (Utah), hollow of the same name about southeast of Salt Lake City in Wasatch Mountain State Park in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah, Wasatch County, Utah, United States. Lyubov Ivanovna Yegorova (russian: Любо́вь Ива́новна Его́рова; born 5 May 1966, Seversk), name also spelled Ljubov Jegorova, is a Russian former cross-country Olympic ski champion, multiple world champion (first time in 1991), winner of the World Cup (1993) and Hero of Russia. Lyubov Yegorova is an honorary citizen of Seversk (1992), Saint Petersburg (1994), and Tomsk Oblast (2005). Career Yegorova won several medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with three golds (4 × 5 km relay: 1991, 1993; 30 km: 1991), one silver (5 km: 1993), and two bronzes (5 km + 10 km combined pursuit, 30 km: 1993). Lina Andersson (born March 18, 1981 in Malmberget) is a Swedish cross-country skier who has competed since 1998. She won a gold medal in the Team sprint (with Anna Dahlberg) at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and also finished 11th in the Individual sprint in those same games. Natascia Leonardi Cortesi (born 1 May 1971) is a Swiss cross-country skier and ski mountaineer who has competed since 1988 in the World Cup circuit. Sara Renner (born April 10, 1976) is a Canadian cross-country skier who competed from 1994 to 2010. With Beckie Scott, she won the silver medal in the team sprint event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and earned her best individual finish of eight in the 10 km classical event in those same games. Valentyna Yevhenivna Shevchenko ( uk, Валентина Євгенівна Шевченко) (born 2 October 1975 in Nosivka Raion) is a Ukrainian former cross-country skier who competed in the World Cup between the 1993–94 season and the 2016–17 season. Career She won the bronze medal in the 30 km event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec.
