Lynn Crosbie
Lynn Crosbie (born 7 August 1963) is a Canadian poet and novelist. She teaches at the University of Toronto. Life and career Crosbie was born in Montreal, Quebec, and now lives in Toronto, Ontario. She received her PhD in English from the University of Toronto, writing her PhD thesis on the work of the American poet Anne Sexton. She has taught at York, U of T, Guelph, and OCAD universities, and has taught shorter classes/workshops at Rutgers, Workman, Sistering, Flying Books And more. In 1997, Insomniac Press published her controversial book on the Canadian criminal Paul Bernardo, ''Paul's Case''. In 2006, Crosbie published a book-length poem titled ''Liar'', available through House of Anansi Press. ''Liar'' is a personal work that deals with the end of her seven-year relationship with the professional wrestling fan Michael Holmes, author of the poetry book '' Parts Unknown''. The Crosbie Baronetcy, of Maryborough in Queen's County, was created in the Baronetage of Ireland on 24 April 1630. The family was of Gaelic and Roman Catholic origin, but this branch converted to the Church of Ireland and Anglicized their name. Sir Walter, the first baronet, was the eldest son of John Crosbie, Bishop of Ardfert and Aghadoe, and a first cousin of the leading statesman Sir Piers Crosby. His brother David founded a junior branch of the family, which gained the title of Earl of Glandore. Earl Of Glandore
Earl of Glandore, in the County of Kerry, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1776 for the Irish politician William Crosbie, 2nd Baron Brandon. He was the son of Sir Maurice Crosbie, who had previously represented County Kerry in the Irish House of Commons for over forty years, and was raised to the peerage as Baron Brandon in 1758. The first Baron was succeeded by his son, the second Baron. He was a member of the Irish Parliament for Ardfert. In 1771 he was created Viscount Crosbie, of Ardfert in the County of Kerry, and in 1776 he was further honoured when he was made Earl of Glandore, in the County of Cork. Both titles were in the Peerage of Ireland. On his death, the titles passed to his son, the second Earl. He sat in the House of Lords as one of the original twenty-eight Irish Representative Peers. Virginia Ann Crosbie (born 8 December 1966) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ynys Môn since the 2019 general election. Prior to her political career, she worked as a director at UBS and HSBC before retraining as a mathematics teacher. Thomas Crosbie Holdings (TCH) was a family-owned media and publishing group based in Cork, Ireland. Its largest publication was once the ''Irish Examiner'', the third largest daily broadsheet newspaper in the Republic of Ireland. History and receivership In July 2012, it was reported by RTÉ that Thomas Crosbie Holdings were considering a "debt restructuring". On 20 January 2013, it was reported that TCH "is edging closer to making a tough decision on its financial restructuring". TCH employed 800 people at one stage, this dropped to 640. In a 2013 court case the company said "everyone in the organisation, was highly attuned to the fact it was a difficult business". On 6 March 2013, TCH went into receivership. Robert Crosbie
Robert Crosbie (10 January 1849 – 25 June 1919) was a theosophist and founder of the United Lodge of Theosophists (ULT). Crosbie was born in Montreal, Lower Canada. In 1902, he moved to Lomaland, Point Loma, California where he helped in building a theosophical community. In 1908 he published a letter ''To all open-minded Theosophists'' about his thoughts on the Theosophical Society. On February 1909 he founded the ULT in Los Angeles. The organization had no presidents or hierarchical structures. Emphasizing the universality of theosophy, the Declaration of the United Lodge of Theosophists states in part: "It regards as Theosophists all who are engaged in the true service of Humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, condition or organization,(...)" Richard Crosbie
Richard Crosbie (1755–1824) was the first Irishman to make a manned flight. He flew in a hydrogen air balloon from Ranelagh, on Dublin's southside to Clontarf, on Dublin's northside on 19 January 1785 at the age of 30. His aerial achievement occurred just 14 months after the first-ever manned balloon flight by the Montgolfier Brothers in France and is commemorated by a memorial located at the site of this historic event & commissioned by Dublin City Council. Crosbie, who was six feet three inches, was from Crosbie Park, near Baltinglass, County Wicklow. He studied at Trinity College, Dublin. In December 1780, Richard married Charlotte Armstrong, daughter of Archibald Armstrong, with whom he had two children; Edward and Mary. Edward went on to become an army officer and Mary a novelist.
