Croesyceiliog RFC
Croesyceiliog Rugby Football Club is a Welsh rugby union team based in Croesyceiliog. Today, Croesyceiliog RFC plays in the Welsh Rugby Union Division One East league and are a feeder club for Newport Gwent Dragons. History Croesyceiliog RFC was founded in 1881 and the first known Club Captain was one G. Morgan who led the side in the 1883/84 season. The side are known locally as the Cockerels, and a Cockerel is depicted on the club's crest. The club has played at several locations during their long history including at one point in a farm-field owned by Jack Walker, a former player, chairman and president of the club. Since the 1960s Torfaen Borough Council have allowed Croesyceiliog RFC to use the facilities at Woodland Road. Croesyceiliog
Croesyceiliog (, ''Cockerel's Cross'') is a suburb of Cwmbran, Wales. Housing Croesyceiliog is primarily a residential district and contains a wide variety of housing from Victorian terraces and even older Welsh cottages to property built between 1930 and 1970 and newer developments within the area. Most of the housing was built in the 1950s and 1960s as part of the development of Cwmbran New Town. Facilities The former Gwent County Hall was located in Croesyceiliog. Until 2012 it provided the main administrative base for Monmouthshire County Council (even though it was outside that administrative area) and Gwent Police, and some offices for Torfaen County Borough Council. The demolition of the premises was required as a result of concrete cancer, and took place in 2013. There are shops, takeaways, pubs, hairdressers and a doctors' surgery in the main shopping areas of Edlogan Square, the Highway and North Road. Dragons RFC ( cy, Dreigiau) are one of the four professional rugby union regional teams in Wales. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Clive Burgess
Robert Clive Burgess (25 November 1950 - 2 May 2006) was an international rugby union flanker who played for Wales from 1977 to 1982. Burgess was a popular player who had many nicknames some of which were ''Budgie'', ''Animal'' and ''The Steel Claw'' thanks to his fearless nature and rugged appearance. He played his club rugby for Ebbw Vale RFC, Croesyceiliog RFC and Brescia Rugby Burgess is unusual as he first started playing rugby at the age of 20 after leaving the Merchant Navy. This did not prevent him from being capped for the Wales B team against France in 1976 and his first full cap came in a try-scoring debut against Ireland in 1977. He was a key member of the 1977 Triple Crown winning side and on his recall from the international wilderness in 1981, was promptly voted Welsh Player of the Year.
