Crockett County, Texas
Crockett County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 3,098. The county seat is Ozona. The county was founded in 1875 and later organized in 1891. It is named in honor of Davy Crockett, the legendary frontiersman who died at the Battle of the Alamo. Crockett County Courthouse
The Crockett County Courthouse is a historic courthouse built in 1902 at 907 Ave D, Ozona, Texas, United States. The Second Empire (architecture), Second Empire style building was designed by Oscar Ruffini of San Angelo, Texas, San Angelo. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 27, 1974. Crockett County, Texas, Crockett County was organized in 1891 and named after Davy Crockett. The first courthouse was a wood-frame structure built in 1891. The building served the county until 1902 when the present hand cut native limestone courthouse and jail were built. The estimated cost of the courthouse was $30,000 paid for by bonds issued by the county. In its first few decades of existence, the two-story structure also served as a community center for social events and weekly dances. Oscar Ruffini
Oscar Ruffini (10 April 1858–18 January 1957) was an architect in San Angelo, Texas. He was the first civic architect in the city and was responsible for many buildings across West Texas in the last 20 years of the 19th century. Early life Oscar Ruffini was born on 10 April 1858 to Germans Ernest Ruffini and Adelaide Reihme, who migrated to the United States of America shortly after their marriage in 1848. Oscar and his siblings, Frederick Ruffini, Frederick, Alvin, Clara, and Camilla, were raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Documentation on Oscar's life before his arrival in San Angelo, Texas is spotty, but at 14 he and Frederick were apprenticed to a Cleveland-based architect. Emerald, Texas
Emerald (also called Emerald Grove and Laverne) is a ghost town in Crockett County, Texas, United States. The community's elevation was 2,425 and consisted of a mile-square site of 300 lots, including a two-room schoolhouse and a store. The Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway Company equipped the town's well with a windmill, pump and tank. Houses and other buildings were constructed after 1888, when the well was dug, and a post office was established in 1890. Later that year, Ozona was named the county seat and Emerald was completely abandoned by 1897 when the school building was disassembled and moved to Ozona. |

Val Verde County is a county located on the southern Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. The 2020 population is 47,586. Its county seat is Del Rio. In 1936, Val Verde County received Recorded Texas Historic Landmark number 5625 to commemorate its founding. Val Verde, which means "green valley", was named for a battle of the American Civil War.
