Crocker Mountain (Maine)
Crocker Mountain is a peak located in Carrabassett Valley, Franklin County, Maine, in the United States. Crocker Mountain is the fourth highest mountain in the state after the Katahdins (Baxter and Hamlin peaks) and Sugarloaf Mountain, and is part of the Appalachian Mountains. Crocker Mountain is traversed by the Appalachian Trail (AT), a National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine. A glacial cirque called "Crocker Cirque" is located between the main summit and the lower summit of South Crocker Mountain. Crocker Cirque contains a small pond and can be reached via the Appalachian Trail. Brooks on the east side of Crocker Mountain feed the South Branch of the Carrabassett River, which flows into the Kennebec River, and into the Gulf of Maine. Sugarloaf (ski Resort)
Sugarloaf (formerly Sugarloaf/USA) is a ski area and resort located on Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, western Maine. It is the second largest ski resort east of the Mississippi in terms of skiable area ( after Killington's ) and snowmaking percentage (95%); its continuous vertical drop of is the second longest in New England (after Killington's ). Sugarloaf recorded a total of 352,000 skier visits in the 2005–2006 season, ranking it second among Maine resorts and 11th in New England. At 4,237 feet (1291 m) Sugarloaf Mountain is third in elevation to Maine's highest peak, Mount Katahdin. It is second to Hamlin Peak, an adjacent spur of Mt Katahdin. White Mountain National Forest
The White Mountain National Forest (WMNF) is a federally managed forest contained within the White Mountains in the northeastern United States. It was established in 1918 as a result of the Weeks Act of 1911; federal acquisition of land had already begun in 1914. It has a total area of (1,225 sq mi). Most of the WMNF is in New Hampshire; a small part (about 5.65% of the forest) is in the neighboring state of Maine. While often casually referred to as a park, this is a national forest, used not only for hiking, camping, and skiing but for logging and other limited commercial purposes. Flagstaff Lake (Maine)
Flagstaff Lake is located in Somerset County and Franklin County, Maine, in the United States. The North Branch Dead River and South Branch Dead River join in the lake, forming the Dead River. The lake's surface area is , and it has a storage capacity of about 275,482 acre-feet. It is extremely shallow (more so during drought years). Its deepest point is .
