Croatian Rowing Federation
The Croatian Rowing Federation ( hr, Hrvatski veslački savez) is the governing body of rowing in Croatia. It organizes the Croatian representation at international competitions and the Croatian national championships. The federation was formed on November 4, 1939 in Zagreb. It became a member of the Croatian Olympic Committee in 1991 and the International Federation of Rowing Associations in 1992. It organized the World Rowing Championships on Jarun in 2000. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. Double Scull
A double scull is a rowing boat used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for two persons who propel the boat by sculling with two oars each, one in each hand. Racing boats (often called "shells") are long, narrow, and broadly semi-circular in cross-section in order to reduce drag to a minimum. They usually have a fin towards the rear, to help prevent roll and yaw. Originally made from wood, shells are now almost always made from a composite material (usually carbon-fibre reinforced plastic) for strength and weight advantages. David Šain (born 8 February 1988 in Osijek) is a Croatian rower. He is an Olympic silver medalist in the men's quadruple sculls, having won silver at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Martin Sinković, Damir Martin and Valent Sinković. Valent Sinković
Valent Sinković (born 2 August 1988) is a Croatian rower. He is the older brother of rower Martin Sinković with whom he won the gold medal in Men's double sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. He had previously won the silver in the men's quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics with his brother, David Šain and Damir Martin. The Sinković brothers were the first men's double sculls team to go under 6 minutes for their race time. Sinković followed his brothers, Matija and Martin, into rowing after injury stopped him playing football. Martin and Valent have been racing together internationally since 2008. Coxless Pair
A coxless pair is a rowing boat used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for two rowers, who propel the boat with sweep oars. The crew consists of a pair of rowers, each having one oar, one on the stroke side (rower's right hand side) and one on the bow side (rower's lefthand side). As the name suggests, there is no coxswain on such a boat, and the two rowers must co-ordinate steering and the proper timing of oar strokes between themselves or by means of a steering installation which is operated by foot from one of the rowers.
