Croatia National Baseball Team
The Croatia national baseball team is the national baseball team of Croatia. As of the beginning of 2013 in the IBAF World Rankings, they were the seventh-best team in Europe and the 31st men's baseball team overall. The team is controlled by the Croatian Baseball Association, which is represented in the Confederation of European Baseball. Croatia hosted one of the four pools during the first stage of play in the 2009 Baseball World Cup. The official IBAF 2014 end-of-year World Rankings put Croatia 43rd in the world. Croatia joined the Confederation of European Baseball in 1992. In 2015, Croatia won the B-Level European Championship in Karlovac. They were undefeated in their pool, winning all five games. In the championship game, Croatia defeated Slovakia 6–4 to win the Qualifier for the 2016 European Baseball Championship. Confederation Of European Baseball
The World Baseball Softball Confederation Europe, known as WBSC Europe, was established on February 10th, 2018 during a Congress of the Confederation of European Baseball and the European Softball Federation in Val d’Europe, France. the establishment of WBSC Europe followed the historic merger of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) and the European Softball Federation (ESF). As of September 2022, WBSC Europe counts 40 members for baseball and 39 for softball. The CEB was founded in 1953 with 5 members, which were Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy and Spain. The CEB was responsible for operating the European Baseball Championship, a championship that has been running since 1954 in Europe. In 2010, there were 112,303 players in the CEB countries. The ESF was founded in 1976 with 6 members, which were Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain. The ESF was responsible for operating the European Softball Championships. The European Baseball Championship is the main championship tournament between national baseball teams in Europe, governed by the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB). History Italy won the inaugural European Baseball Championship in , and the competition has since been dominated by the Italian team and the Dutch team. As of 2010, it is held every other year, in even-numbered years until 2019 and then in odd-numbered years, with a total of 34 European Baseball Championships having been played. Qualification The current European Baseball Championship classification system divides the national teams into three pools, those being A, B, and C. Teams in Pool A are automatically qualified for the next championship. The two best teams in Pool B will also qualify for the next championship. The two best teams in Pool C will promote to Pool B. 2014 European Baseball Championship
The 2014 European Baseball Championship was an international baseball tournament held in the Czech Republic and Germany. The defending champion Italy lost in the final to the Netherlands, who became champion for the 21st time. Qualification The top ten teams of the 2012 European Championship were qualified automatically for the tournament. 12 teams played a B-Level Qualifier from July 22 to 27, 2013. 2010 European Baseball Championship
The 2010 European Baseball Championship was an international baseball competition held in Germany from July 23 to August 1, 2010. The tournament was originally set to be held in 2009 with Russia as host. In March 2008, the Confederation of European Baseball awarded the tournament to the German Baseball and Softball Federation. The event was hosted by the cities of Stuttgart, Heidenheim an der Brenz and Neuenburg am Rhein in the southwest of Germany. 2007 European Baseball Championship
The 2007 European Baseball Championship was an international baseball tournament held from September 7 to 16, between national baseball teams of the Confederation of European Baseball. The tournament was held in Barcelona, Spain and served as the qualifying competition for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. The Netherlands won the tournament for the 5th consecutive time and qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Great Britain and Spain advanced to a final qualifying tournament in Taiwan. Prior to the tournament, Greece was removed by the European Baseball Confederation and replaced with Austria. Czech Republic was downgraded to the last place at the end of the tournament and its wins in the preliminary round vacated. This was the first time that 5 teams instead of 2 were relegated to the B-Pool. The Baseball World Cup was an international tournament where national baseball teams from around the world competed. It was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation (IBAF). Along with the World Baseball Classic, it was one of two active tournaments considered by the IBAF to be a major world championship. The baseball tournament at the Summer Olympic Games was also considered a major world championship while baseball was an Olympic sport. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The game occurs over the course of several plays, with each play generally beginning when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball that a player on the batting team, called the batter, tries to hit with a bat.
