Croatia At The 2009 World Championships In Athletics
Croatia competed at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics from 15 to 23 August. A team of 5 athletes was announced in preparation for the competition. Selected athletes have achieved one of the competition's qualifying standards. Blanka Vlašić defended her high jump world title. Team selection Croatian team at the 2009 World Championships was selected by Siniša Ergotić, director of the Croatian Athletics Federation. Two out of five athletes qualified by meeting the A standard: Blanka Vlašić and Sandra Perković. Except for Sandra Perković, all athletes in the Croatian team had prior experience from major athletics competitions (European Championships, World Championships, or Olympic Games). Jurica Grabušić also qualified by meeting the 110 meter hurdles B standard, but decided against competing after consultations with his coach. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. Anna Chicherova
Anna Vladimirovna Chicherova (russian: Анна Владимировна Чичерова; born 22 July 1982) is a Russian high jumper. She was the gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and originally was awarded a bronze medal in the event at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She was also runner-up at the World Championships in 2007 and 2013, as well as the bronze medalist in 2015. In May 2016, it was reported that a retest of samples from the 2008 Games had found 31 positive findings for performance-enhancing drugs. One of those positive tests was admitted by her coach to belong to Chicherova. On 6 October 2016, the IOC confirmed that Chicherova had failed a doping test, due to the presence of turinabol in her 2008 sample, and stripped her of her bronze medal. Ariane Friedrich
Ariane Friedrich (born Tempel; 10 January 1984 in Nordhausen) is a German high jumper. She won the silver medal at the 2009 World Championships and represented Germany at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics. She is the German outdoor record holder in the event with a best of 2.06 m, although this is 1 cm less than the indoor record held by Heike Henkel. The Men's Hammer Throw event at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on August 15 and August 17. With reigning champion Ivan Tsikhan banned from competition for doping offences, the 2008 Olympic gold and silver medallists Primož Kozmus and Krisztián Pars were the favourites in the event. The Men's Shot Put event at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on August 15. The Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski entered the competition as the world-leading athlete and one of the favourites. Much was expected of the four-man United States team, consisting of defending champion Reese Hoffa, Olympic silver medalist Christian Cantwell, former world champion Adam Nelson, and newcomer Dan Taylor. Cantwell won the competition, recording a world-leading 22.03 m throw to fend off second-placed Majewski (who managed 21.91 m). András Haklits
András Haklits (born 23 September 1977) is a Croatian hammer thrower and bobsledder. He represented Hungary until July 1998. He finished tenth at the 2006 European Athletics Championships and eighth at the 2008 Olympic Games. In addition he competed at the World Championships in 1999, 2005 and 2007 and the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 without reaching the final. His personal best is 80.41 metres, achieved in May 2005 in Marietta. He worked for Doyle Sports Management whilst living in Athens, Georgia, where he graduated in economics from the University of Georgia, and he now works for Babinyecz Management in Budapest. The hammer throw is one of the four throwing events in regular track and field competitions, along with the discus throw, shot put and javelin.
