Cristóbal Colón Ruiz
Cristóbal Colón Ruíz (born October 4, 1954) is a Puerto Rican politician affiliated with the New Progressive Party (NPP). He was a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives from 2001 to 2011 representing District 34. Early years and studies Cristóbal Colón Ruiz was born on the Barrio Guayabota of Yabucoa on October 4, 1954. He completed his elementary and high school studies in his hometown, graduating from the Teodoro Aguilar Mora Vocational High School. While a student, Colón distinguished himself as a baseball player. Professional career After graduating, Colón worked as a farmer. In 1991 the farmer's association chose him as farmer of the year. Political career Colón began his political career in 1992, when he was elected as member of the Municipal Assembly of Yabucoa. He also served as majority speaker within the body. Patillas, Puerto Rico
Patillas (, ) is a beach town and municipality of Puerto Rico located in the southeastern coast, south of San Lorenzo; west of Yabucoa and Maunabo; and east of Guayama and Arroyo. It is spread over 15 barrios and Patillas Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). It is part of the Guayama Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Europeans had settled the area as early as 1760. There was, however, no permanent settlement until the town was officially founded in 1811. In 1841 a fire in Patillas killed a great many people. Patillas is located along the southeastern coast of the main island of Puerto Rico. The 2012 Puerto Rican general elections were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 to elect the officials of the Puerto Rican government that would serve for the next four years, most notably the Governor of Puerto Rico. A status referendum was held on the same date. The election was won by then-Senator Alejandro García Padilla (from the Popular Democratic Party), who defeated incumbent Governor Luis Fortuño (from the New Progressive Party) in a close election.
