The Criminal Justice Policy Council (CJPC) was a state agency of the Government of Texas. The agency was located in Suite 1029 in the Stephen F. Austin State Office Building in Downtown Austin, Texas. The agency, established in 1983, provided policy analysis to the Governor of Texas and the Texas Legislature to review policies regarding corrections of adults and juveniles. Downtown Austin is the central business district of Austin, Texas. Downtown is located on the north bank of the Colorado River. James Richard Perry (born March 4, 1950) is an American politician who served as the 14th United States secretary of energy from 2017 to 2019 and as the 47th governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015. Perry also ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2012 and 2016 elections, losing to Mitt Romney and Donald Trump, respectively. Born into a family of cotton farmers in Haskell, Texas, Perry graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 and entered into the United States Air Force, serving a five-year stint and achieving the rank of captain.
