''Crimes That Shook Australia'' is an Australian true crime Television documentary, documentary television series that premiered on Crime + Investigation (Australian TV channel), Crime + Investigation on 16 April 2014. Stan Grant (journalist), Stan Grant presented the first two series; Matt Doran (journalist), Matt Doran was announced as the new presenter in February 2017. Production As with similar true crime documentaries, ''Crimes That Shook Australia'' explores some of Australia's most famous crimes, and details "the events leading up to the crime, the crime itself and its enduring effect on the national consciousness" through interviews, reconstructions and archival footage. Russell Street Bombing
The Russell Street bombing was the 27 March 1986 bombing of the Russell Street Police Headquarters complex in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The explosion killed Angela Rose Taylor, the first Australian policewoman to be killed in the line of duty. The materials for the bomb were stolen from Tyrconnel Mine. Several men were arrested for suspected involvement with the bombing. Stanley Taylor and Craig Minogue were convicted of murder and various other offences related to the bombing. Peter Reed and Rodney Minogue were acquitted of any offences related to the bombing but Reed was convicted of a number of offences related to his arrest, which involved a shootout with police officers in which he and an officer were wounded. Gillian Meagher (née McKeon) was a 29-year-old Irish woman living in Australia who was raped and murdered while walking home from a pub in Brunswick, an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, in the early hours of 22 September 2012. Meagher's case was initially classified as that of a missing person, as she had failed to return home to her husband, Tom Meagher. But it soon became a homicide investigation. The death of Joe Cinque occurred in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory on 26 October 1997. Cinque's coffee was laced with rohypnol, a sedative, at a dinner party, after which he was injected with a lethal dose of heroin by his girlfriend Anu Singh, who was a law student at the Australian National University at the time.
