''Crime Investigation Australia'' is an Australian true-crime series that first premiered on pay TV Foxtel's Crime & Investigation Network in August 2005. The series was also rebroadcast on Free to air Nine Network, and made its debut there on 14 August 2007. The original host of the series was Steve Liebmann and is currently on Channel 7 with host Matt Doran. Production The series was produced by Graham McNeice who resides in Moore Park, New South Wales and is director of Shadow Productions. In a 2008 interview, McNeice said the impetus for the series was to provide an element of local content to a channel (Foxtel) that is dominated by American and European crime stories. Foxtel announced that the series would be "rested" for 2010, however, it never returned. The series included interviews from victims, families, investigators, lawyers, and journalists. Steve Liebmann
Steve Liebmann (born 4 May 1944) is an Australian retired television presenter, journalist and radio broadcaster. Liebmann is best known for co-hosting ''Today'' on the Nine Network between 1982 and 1986, and again from 1990 to 2005. Early life and career Born in Cooma, New South Wales, he attended Monaro High School. He became a journalist in Cooma on Radio 2XL while still in high school. He hosted "Teen Scene" from 5:30 pm to 6:00pm on week days, playing the latest records. His sign-off at the end of the show was "Yip yip yehodie, you're a little beauty". Liebmann relocated to Canberra in 1962 and worked at radio 2CA, before moving to Sydney in 1967 to take up a position with Seven Network's Sydney bureau as news editor and on-air presenter. The Wanda Beach Murders, sometimes referred to simply as "Wanda", is the case of the unsolved murders of Marianne Schmidt and Christine Sharrock at Wanda Beach near Cronulla in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 11 January 1965. The victims, both aged 15, were best friends and neighbours from the suburb of West Ryde, and their partially buried bodies were discovered the next day. The brutal nature of the slayings and the fact that they occurred on a deserted, windswept beach brought massive publicity to the case. By April 1966, police had interviewed some 7,000 people, making it the largest investigation in Australian history. Leonard Fraser
Leonard John Fraser (27 June 1951 – 1 January 2007), also known as The Rockhampton Rapist, was an Australian convicted serial killer. Biography Fraser was born in Ingham, Queensland in 1951 and moved to Sydney in 1957. He left school in the 1960s and had an extensive criminal record dating back to 1966, when at age 15 he was sentenced to 12 months in a boys home for stealing. He would spend the following years in and out of jail for theft and various other crimes. John Cribb
John Ernest Cribb (5 August 1950 – 21 February 2018) was an Australian triple murderer from Sydney. At the time of his death, Cribb was serving three consecutive sentences of life imprisonment plus 45 years for the rape and murder of Valda Connell and the murder of her children, Sally and Damien, at Swansea, New South Wales, on 11 August 1978, in addition to numerous other offences. The Claremont serial killings is the name given by the media to a case involving the disappearance of an Australian woman, aged 18, and the killings of two others, aged 23 and 27, in 1996–1997. After attending night spots in Claremont, a wealthy western suburb of Perth, Western Australia, all three women disappeared in similar circumstances leading police to suspect that an unidentified serial killer was the offender. The case was described as the state's biggest, longest running, and most expensive investigation. In 2016, a suspect, Bradley Robert Edwards, was arrested. The Family Murders
The Family Murders is the name given to a series of five murders speculated to have been committed by a loosely connected group of individuals who came to be known as "The Family". This group was believed to be involved in the kidnapping and sexual abuse of a number of teenage boys and young men, as well as the torture and murder of five young men aged between 14 and 25, in Adelaide, South Australia, in the 1970s and 1980s. The name of the group stems from an interview a police detective gave on ''60 Minutes'', claiming the police were taking action "to break up the happy family". John Paul Newman (born Johann Grauenig, formerly Naumenko; 8 December 1946 – 5 September 1994) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1986 until his death.
