CricketGraph
CricketGraph was a graphic software program for the Apple Macintosh by Cricket Software sold until 1996. It could take tabulated data and create common business and statistics graphs such as bar chart, pie chart, scatter plots and radial plots. These graphs could be saved in common image formats such as PICT and EPS and added to other documents. It did not have the same capabilities as a spreadsheet. Competition The main competitor was Visual Business, as well as the built-in graphing packages in Microsoft Excel, Informix Wingz and specialty statistics software such as Systat. Although this package was written cleanly enough to run on much later versions of Classic Mac OS, the feature set was eventually superseded by packages such as DataGraph, DeltaGraph and KaleidaGraph. Cricket Software
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. DataGraph is a graphing and data analysis software application for the macOS operating system, developed by Visual Data Tools in Chapel Hill, NC. DataGraph is used for creating publication quality graphics, particularly for research and science. Visual Data Tools was founded in 2002. In 2005, Visual Data Tools was awarded an Apple Design award for the Best Mac OS X Scientific Computing Solution for DataTank. In 2006, Visual Data Tools released DataGraph, initially called DataPlot. In 2011, DataGraph was among the first applications available on the mac App store. Mac OS (originally System Software; retronym: Classic Mac OS) is the series of operating systems developed for the Macintosh family of personal computers by Apple Computer from 1984 to 2001, starting with System 1 and ending with Mac OS 9. SYSTAT (software)
SYSTAT is a statistics and statistical graphics software package, developed by Leland Wilkinson in the late 1970s, who was at the time an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Systat Software Inc. was incorporated in 1983 and grew to over 50 employees. In 1995, SYSTAT was sold to SPSS Inc., who marketed the product to a scientific audience under the SPSS Science division. By 2002, SPSS had changed its focus to business analytics and decided to sell SYSTAT to Cranes Software in Bangalore, India. Cranes formed Systat Software, Inc. to market and distribute SYSTAT in the US, and a number of other divisions for global distribution. The headquarters are in Chicago, Illinois. By 2005, SYSTAT was in its eleventh version having a revamped codebase completely changed from Fortran into C++. Informix Wingz
Wingz was a spreadsheet program sold by Informix in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Originally developed for the Macintosh, it was later ported to Microsoft Windows, OS/2, NeXTSTEP and several other commercial flavors of Unix. In spite of many positive reviews, including one calling it "clearly the spreadsheet of the future", the market was rapidly entrenching Microsoft Excel. Informix eventually gave up on the desktop market and reverted solely to database sales in the mid-1990s. Claris licensed and sold an extensively cleaned up version as Claris Resolve in 1991, but it was far too late to market to have any effect.
