Crianlarich Lower Railway Station
Crianlarich Lower was a railway station located in Crianlarich, Stirling. History This station was opened on 1 August 1873 by the Callander and Oban Railway. It was the first railway station in Crianlarich. The station was originally laid out with two platforms, one on either side of a crossing loop. There were sidings on the south side of the station. After the West Highland Railway opened in 1894, Crianlarich could boast two railway stations. The West Highland Railway crossed over the Callander and Oban Railway by means of a viaduct located a short distance west of the Lower station. The West Highland Railway's Crianlarich station was (and still is) located a short distance south of this viaduct. On 15 November 1921, the loop and one of the platforms at Crianlarich Lower were taken out of use. Crianlarich
Crianlarich (; gd, A' Chrìon Làraich) is a village in Stirling council area and in the registration county of Perthshire, Scotland, around north-east of the head of Loch Lomond. The village bills itself as "the gateway to the Highlands". Etymology The name ''Crianlarich'' is derived probably from the Gaelic meaning either "the wasted site" or "the aspen site" (c.f. Gaelic ''critheann'', "aspen"). Situation The village lies in the glen of Strath Fillan at the north western extent of the Trossachs, in the shadow of several Munro peaks, notably Ben More, but also Stob Binnein and Cruach Ardrain. Thus Crianlarich is very popular with hillwalkers. Also the village lies along the long-distance footpath, the West Highland Way. The Caledonian Railway (CR) was a major Scottish railway company. It was formed in the early 19th century with the objective of forming a link between English railways and Glasgow. It progressively extended its network and reached Edinburgh and Aberdeen, with a dense network of branch lines in the area surrounding Glasgow. Glen Ogle
Glen Ogle (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Ogail) extends 7 miles north westwards from Lochearnhead to Lix Toll, where it opens into Glen Dochart. The Ogle Burn flows within the steep sides of the glen, from the Lochan Lairig Cheile at the glen's head. The military road, which can be seen from the modern road, was built in 1749 by Major William Caulfeild.
