Crewe Carriage Sidings
Crewe Carriage Sidings (alternatively Crewe Carriage Depot, and also as Crewe L&NWR) is a stabling point located in Crewe, Cheshire, England, on the eastern side of the West Coast Main Line, between that line and the line to Alsager, to the south of Crewe station. History The main shed was opened by the London & North Western Railway prior to 1910, as a seven-track through-road shed. By the 1960s, this shed was used by British Rail for stabling multiple units. The three-track bay, closest to the West Coast Main Line, was refurbished after 1996. The second building is a three plus one-track through-road shed, built in 1999. Present It provides stabling for Transport for Wales Rail Class 67, Mark 4 carriages, Driving Van Trailers, Class 150, and Class 158s, West Midlands Trains Class 350s and Avanti West Coast Class 221s. The Class 67 locomotives are a class of Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotives that were built for the English Welsh & Scottish Railway (EWS) between 1999 and 2000 by Alstom at Meinfesa in Valencia, Spain with drive components (engine, generator and traction motors) from General Motors' Electro-Motive Division. EMD's designation for this locomotive type is JT42HW-HS. Peter Alan Waterman, (born 15 January 1947) is an English record producer, songwriter, radio and club DJ, television presenter, president of Coventry Bears rugby league club and a keen railway enthusiast. As a member of the Stock Aitken Waterman songwriting team, he wrote and produced many hit singles. The British Rail Class 221 ''Super Voyager'' is a class of tilting diesel-electric multiple unit express passenger trains built in Bruges, Belgium, by Bombardier Transportation in 2001/02. The Class 221 are similar to the Class 220 ''Voyager'' units, but were built with a tilting mechanism enabling up to six degrees of tilt to allow higher speeds on curved tracks, most have five coaches, and they have a different bogie design. Avanti West Coast is a train operating company in the United Kingdom owned by FirstGroup (70%) and Trenitalia (30%) that operates the West Coast Partnership franchise. During November 2016, the Department for Transport (DfT) announced the InterCity West Coast franchise would be replaced by the West Coast Partnership (WCP). The British Rail Class 350 is a class of electric multiple-unit built by Siemens Transportation Systems to its Siemens Desiro, Desiro design between 2004 and 2014. All 87 are now operated by West Midlands Trains, having previously been operated by Central Trains, Silverlink, Southern (Govia Thameslink Railway), Southern, London Midland, First TransPennine Express and TransPennine Express. Driving Van Trailer
A Driving Van Trailer (DVT) is a Great Britain, British purpose-built control car railway vehicle that allows the driver to operate with a locomotive in Push-pull train, push-pull formation from the opposite end of a train. A key benefit of operating trains with DVTs is the requirement for fewer locomotives; for example, a second locomotive would otherwise have to join at the other end of the train after arrival at terminal stations to lead the train's onward journey. Unlike many other control cars, DVTs resemble locomotives, specifically British Rail Class 90, Class 90 for the 82/1 mark 3 series and British Rail Class 91, Class 91 for the 82/2 mark 4 series; thus when the train is operating in push mode, it does not appear to be travelling backwards.
