Crestline, Ohio
Crestline is a village in Crawford and Richland Counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. Crestline's population was 4,630 at the 2010 census. It is the third largest municipality in Crawford County. The Crawford County portion of Crestline is part of the Bucyrus Micropolitan Statistical Area, while the small portion of the village that extends into Richland County is considered part of the Mansfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. History First came the railroad, and then came the town. It all started in 1850 when a route was needed between Shelby and Galion, a distance of 13 miles, by the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati Railroad, or the "Bee Line" as it was known then. Since there was no town between Shelby and Galion, it was decided that a station should be placed halfway for passenger convenience. Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. Gates Brown
William James "Gates" Brown (May 2, 1939 – September 27, 2013) was an American Major League Baseball left fielder who spent his entire career with the Detroit Tigers (1963–1975). He batted left-handed and threw right-handed. Early life Brown was born in 1939 in Crestline, Ohio. He attended Crestline High School and played tailback for the school's football team. Brown also played baseball in Pony League, American Legion, sandlot and high school competition. He played at the catcher position, a position his father had also played. After his sophomore year, Brown "got in with the wrong crowd" and spent his junior year at the Boys Industrial School for juvenile offenders in Lancaster, Ohio. He returned to Crestline High for his senior year, but he was not permitted to compete in sports. At age 18, he was arrested and convicted of burglary. The Northwest Central Conference is an OHSAA athletic league located in parts of northwest and western Ohio. The league came into existence in the 2001–2002 school year. The NWCC supports 10 league sports: Boys and Girls Cross Country, Boys Golf, Football, Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball, Baseball and Softball. The Northern 10 Athletic Conference (or Northern 10/N10) is an OHSAA athletic conference that is currently made up of eight schools from northern Ohio and began athletic competition in 2014. Six schools (Buckeye Central, Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, Upper Sandusky, and Wynford) came from the North Central Conference, three (Carey, Mohawk, and Seneca East) came from the Midland Athletic League, and one ( Ridgedale) came from the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. Riverdale was also supposed to come over from the North Central Conference, but had its membership terminated when it accepted an invitation to the Blanchard Valley Conference. The North Central Conference was an OHSAA athletic league whose final remaining members were located in northwest and north-central Ohio. The league's last day of operation was June 30, 2014. The following schools were members at the time the league folded: Former members League history The conference's first year was in the 1962-63 school year. The original members were: Buckeye Central, Colonel Crawford, Elgin, Mohawk, Pleasant, Ridgedale, River Valley and Riverdale. Carey and Wynford joined the NCC for the 1963-64 school year. Some conferences have schools in multiple regions, and will be listed in all applicable regions. However, the conference information is on the region page where the most schools are classified in. Conference membership in Ohio is voluntary, rather than assigned by the state association like in some states. While this ensures that many rivalries stay intact regardless of classification changes, it also means schools can choose to change conferences pending acceptance into a different conference, or in rare cases, can be forced out of a conference. The Northern Ohio League (NOL) was an OHSAA athletic league in north central Ohio that began competition in 1944 and disbanded in 2017 after six of its seven members joined the Sandusky Bay Conference.
