Eponymous Archon
In ancient Greece the chief magistrate in various Greek city states was called eponymous archon (ἐπώνυμος ἄρχων, ''epōnymos archōn''). "Archon" (ἄρχων, pl. ἄρχοντες, ''archontes'') means "ruler" or "lord", frequently used as the title of a specific public office, while "eponymous" means that he gave his name to the year in which he held office, much like the Roman dating by consular years. In Classical Athens, a system of nine concurrent archons evolved, led by three respective remits over the civic, military, and religious affairs of the state: the three office holders were known as the eponymous archon, the polemarch (πολέμαρχος, "war ruler"), and the archon basileus (ἄρχων βασιλεύς, "king ruler"). The six others were the thesmothetai, judicial officers. Originally these offices were filled from the wealthier classes by elections every ten years. During this period the eponymous archon was the chief magistrate, the polema ...

Creon (king Of Thebes)
Creon (; grc, Κρέων, Kreōn, ruler), is a figure in Greek mythology best known as the ruler of Thebes in the legend of Oedipus. Family Creon had four sons and three daughters with his wife, Eurydice (sometimes known as Henioche): Henioche, Pyrrha, Megareus (also called Menoeceus), Lycomedes and Haimon. Creon and his sister, Jocasta, were descendants of Cadmus and of the Spartoi. He is sometimes considered to be the same person who purified Amphitryon of the murder of his uncle Electryon and father of Megara, first wife of Heracles. Mythology First Regency After the death of King Laius of Thebes by the hands of his own son Oedipus, Creon sat on the vacant throne and became the ruler of the kingdom. During this regency, Amphitryon arrived with his fiancée Alcmena and her half-brother Licymnius from Mycenae, seeking exile and purification for the death of his prospective father-in-law King Electryon, whom he accidentally had killed. Creon purified him, and received ...

Creon (king Of Corinth)
In Greek mythology, Creon (; grc, Κρέων, Kreōn, lit=ruler), son of Lycaethus, was a king of Corinth and father of Hippotes and Creusa or Glauce, whom Jason would marry if not for the intervention of Medea. Mythology According to a lost play by Euripides summarized in the '' Bibliotheca'', Alcmaeon entrusted to Creon's care his two children by Manto—a son Amphilochus and a daughter Tisiphone. The latter grew up to be so pretty that Creon's wife sold her away as a slave, fearing that Creon might abandon her in favor of the maiden. Tisiphone was bought by her own father Alcmaeon, who failed to recognize her and did not get to know the truth until he came to Corinth to fetch his children. Creon is best known in connection with the myth of Jason and Medea mentioned above. He showed hospitality towards the couple, and later expressed consent for Jason to marry his daughter. Ultimately, he fell victim to Medea's subsequent revenge, getting burned to death as he was attemptin ...

Physically, he is a tall, well-muscled humanoid alien with orange-tinted skin and blonde hair. Other distinguishing characteristics are golden prosthetics in place of his right hand and left eye. He first appeared in ''Green Lantern'' (vol. 3) #22 (March 1992). Fictional character biography Early history A warlord, General Kreon sought to end wars in Tebis rather than start them. He had seen the horrors of war and indeed had lost an eye and an arm in his service to the military. His beliefs about war were in complete contrast to that of his race: the Chietain, a militaristic warrior race. His race glorified war and the domination of other races. Their race was also far more advanced than earth in terms of technology. They had used advanced space travelling ships to invade Space Sector 3319. They saw this as necessary; their stronghold on the Sector 3316 p ...
