Creetown F.C.
Creetown Football Club is a association football, football club based in Creetown in the Dumfries and Galloway area of Scotland. Formed in 1905 as Creetown Rifle Volunteers Football Club, they adopted their present name in 1920. They originally played their home matches at Barholm Park, which had been the ground of Barholm Rovers F.C., Barholm Rovers, who went out of existence in 1905. They now play their home matches at Castlecary Park, which accommodates up to 2,000 spectators. Their strip (uniform) colours are yellow and black. For the 2009β10 in Scottish football, 2009β10 season, Creetown played their home matches 12 miles away at Ballgreen Park in Kirkcowan, which was the home of the now defunct Tarff Rovers F.C., Tarff Rovers, while upgrading work took place at Castlecary Park to bring the facilities up to league standards. Creetown
Creetown (, sometimes ) is a small seaside town in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, in Galloway in the Dumfries and Galloway council area in south-west Scotland. Its population is about 750 people. It is situated near the head of Wigtown Bay, west of Castle Douglas. The town was originally named Ferrytown of Cree (Scottish Gaelic: ''Port Aiseig a' Chrìch'') as it formed one end of a ferry route that took pilgrims across the River Cree estuary to the shrine of St Ninian at Whithorn. This is why the local football team, formed in 1895, are known as "The Ferrytoun". Creetown was formerly served by the Portpatrick and Wigtownshire Railway. The granite quarries in the vicinity constituted the leading industry from about 1830 to 1900, the stone for the Liverpool docks and other public works having been obtained from them. The East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) is a senior football league based in the east and south-east of Scotland. The league sits at levels 6β9 on the Scottish football league system, acting as a feeder to the Lowland Football League. Founded in 1923, it is currently composed of 60 member clubs competing in four divisions. Traditionally clubs were located in Edinburgh, Lothians and the Scottish Borders however the league has now expanded and also includes clubs from Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Fife, Stirling, and Perth. The 2022β23 South of Scotland Football League was the 77th season of the South of Scotland Football League, and the 9th season as part of the sixth tier of the Scottish football pyramid system. The season started on 30 July 2022 and ended on 8 May 2023. St Cuthbert Wanderers were the reigning champions. The title was won for the first time by Abbey Vale, winning their last seven games of the season to overhaul long-time league leaders Creetown, who were also chasing a first league title.
