Cranbourne West is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 40 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Casey local government area. Cranbourne West recorded a population of 19,969 at the 2021 census. Cranbourne West has developed since the 1990s, and in 2006 had a new shopping centre opened called 'The Sandhurst Centre', on the corner of Duff Street and Monahans Road. The Year 7-12 private Catholic School, St Peters College, is situated on Sladen Street in the far south of the suburb. The Cranbourne West Development Plan was released in 2008 by the City of Casey and includes a large parcel of land bounded by Thompsons Road to the North, Evans Road to the East, Western Port Highway to the West, and the recently partially-built Ballarto Road and the urban growth boundary (as of 2012) to the south. Electoral District Of Cranbourne
Cranbourne is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is located south-east of Melbourne and includes the suburbs of Botanic Ridge, Cranbourne, Cranbourne East, Cranbourne North, Cranbourne West, Junction Village, as well as parts of Clyde, Clyde North, Cranbourne South, Devon Meadows, Lynbrook and Lyndhurst. It was created prior to the 1992 state election. Cranbourne was held by Jude Perera of the Labor Party from 2002 to 2018, with a two-party preferred margin of 2.3% at the 2014 state election. However, from 1992 to the 2002 election the seat was held by the Liberal Party, albeit with different boundaries that were more favourable to the Liberals. An urban growth boundary, or UGB, is a regional boundary, set in an attempt to control urban sprawl by, in its simplest form, mandating that the area inside the boundary be used for urban development and the area outside be preserved in its natural state or used for agriculture. Legislating for an "urban growth boundary" is one way, among many others, of managing the major challenges posed by unplanned urban growth and the encroachment of cities upon agricultural and rural land. Western Port Highway (formerly Dandenong–Hastings Road) is a highway in Victoria, Australia, linking the south-eastern fringe of suburban Melbourne to the western coast of Western Port, after which the highway is named, at the Port of Hastings nearly 30 km to the south. It runs from the end of South Gippsland Freeway at Lynbrook, firstly as a dual carriageway and later as an undivided road, to Frankston-Flinders Road at Hastings. 2021 Australian Census
The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. The 2021 Census took place on 10 August 2021, and was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as 25,422,788 – an increase of 8.6 per cent or 2,020,896 people over the previous 2016 census. The City of Casey is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Casey is Victoria's most populous municipality, with a June 2018 population of 340,419. It has an area of .
