Alexander Craighead
Alexander Craighead (1705–1766) was a Scots-Irish American preacher. Biography Early life Alexander Craighead was born in Donegal, Ulster, Ireland on March 18, 1707. He emigrated to North America with his father, the Reverend Thomas Craighead. He died March 1766 in Rocky Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He was the youngest son of Rev. Thomas Craighead and Margaret Holmes. He was the brother to John Craighead. Their mother was Margaret Holmes who was born in Scotland. She came with her husband and four of their five children from County Londonderry to America settling first in Massachusetts. Brander Craighead (born September 8, 1990) is a former Canadian football offensive lineman who played two seasons for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the first round of the 2013 CFL Draft. Craighead played college football at the University of Texas at El Paso and attended Mother Teresa High School in Nepean, Ontario. David Craighead (organist)
David Craighead (January 24, 1924 – March 26, 2012) was a noted American organist. Craighead was born in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. He studied with Alexander McCurdy at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree in 1946. While at Curtis he met his future wife Marian Reiff, also a pupil of McCurdy. They married in 1948. From 1955 until his retirement in the summer of 1992 he was both Professor of Organ and Chair of the Organ Division of the Keyboard Department at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Craighead was also organist of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Rochester, a position he held for 48 years. In June 1968, Craighead received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania. Harold G. Craighead (born September 21, 1952) is an American professor of applied and engineering physics at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he holds the title of Charles W. Charles W. Engelhard Jr. (February 15, 1917 – March 2, 1971) was an American businessman, a major owner in Thoroughbred horse racing, and a candidate in the 1955 New Jersey State Senate Elections. He controlled an international mining and metals conglomerate, Engelhard, founded by his father. John Craighead
John Craighead (born November 23, 1971) is a retired professional ice hockey right winger. He played five games for the Toronto Maple Leafs during 1996–97 season. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1991 to 2005, was spent in the minor leagues and then in Europe. Some sources claim that he was born in Richmond, Virginia. He spent most of his youth growing up in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has played ice hockey for the Nottingham Panthers and the IHL's Detroit Vipers. Thomas B. Craighead (1798–1862) was an American politician and lawyer from the state of Arkansas. He served in the Arkansas State Senate representing Crittenden and Mississippi Counties. Early life Craighead was born 1798 to the Reverend Thomas Craighead and his wife Elizabeth. Craighead County In 1859, Senator William A. Jones, who represented St. Francis and Poinsett Counties, introduced a bill to create a new county. This county would be created from portions of Poinsett, Greene, and Mississippi Counties. Craighead opposed the bill because it would remove a large section of fertile farmland from Mississippi County, and the tax revenue derive from it. Jones waited until Craighead was absent from the chamber to push for final passage of his bill. Unknown to Craighead, Jones amended the bill to name the new county Craighead County, possibly as a gesture of goodwill. In return, the new county seat was named Jonesboro.
