Craig Riedel
Craig Riedel (born May 23, 1966) is an American politician who served as the state representative for the 82nd District of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2017 to 2022. He is a Republican. The 82nd district consists of Defiance, Paulding and Van Wert counties as well as a portion of Auglaize County. Riedel is a candidate in the 2024 election for Ohio's 9th congressional district. Life and career Riedel was born in Oberlin, Ohio, and raised in Attica, Ohio, on a family farm. He attended Ohio State University where he received a degree in civil engineering. He worked as an engineer for over twenty five years with Nucor Vulcraft Group, located in Defiance. In 2015, Riedel retired, but continued to remain active in his community prior to being elected to public office. He is married with a son and a daughter and resides in Defiance, Ohio. Tony Burkley is a former Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 82nd district from 2013 to 2016. He was elected in 2012, defeating independent Pete Schlegel with 59% of the vote. He also contested a seat for the 2006 election, but lost the Republican primary to Lynn Wachtmann. Before his election to the Ohio House, Burkley served as commissioner of Paulding County, Ohio. Ohio's 9th congressional district has been represented by Representative Marcy Kaptur ( D) since 1983. This district is in the northern part of the state, bordering Michigan and Ontario, Canada (via Lake Erie), and includes portions of Cuyahoga, Erie, Lorain, Lucas, and Ottawa counties. Auglaize County () is a county in Northwestern Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 46,442. Its county seat is Wapakoneta. Auglaize County comprises the Wapakoneta Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Lima- Van Wert- Celina Combined Statistical Area. Etymology The county is named for the Auglaize River. Some sources say it is a corruption of the French description of the clay (''glaise'') water (''eau''); others say it comes from a Native American word for fallen timbers.
