Craig Raymond
Craig Milford Raymond (April 5, 1945 - October 15, 2018) was an American professional basketball player. Raymond played basketball at Hudson's Bay High School in Vancouver, Washington, where he was named a ''Parade'' All-American during his senior year. A 6'11" center from Brigham Young University, Raymond played with Dick Nemelka, Jeff Congdon, and Jim Jimas on BYU teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament in 1965 and in 1966 won the National Invitation Tournament in New York City. In the championship game, he scored 21 points with nearly the same number of rebounds. He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the twelfth pick of the 1967 NBA draft. Raymond spent one year with the 76ers, then jumped to the rival American Basketball Association and played four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pipers, the Los Angeles Stars, the Memphis Pros, The Floridians, the San Diego Conquistadors, and the Indiana Pacers. Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano, commonly known as Olimpia Milano or as EA7 Emporio Armani Milan after its title sponsor, is an LBA Italian professional basketball team, based in Milan, Italy. Its colors are white and red, and the team is sometimes referred as "Scarpette Rosse" (Little Red Shoes) because team officials imported red Converse All-Star shoes for players from the United States. San Diego Conquistadors
The San Diego Conquistadors (known as the San Diego Sails in their final, partial season), were an American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in San Diego. The "Q's", as they were popularly known, played from 1972 to 1975. As the Sails, they played an incomplete season only, beginning the 1975–1976 season but folding after only 11 games with 3 wins and 8 losses. 1967 NBA Draft
The 1967 NBA draft was the 21st annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on May 3 and 4, 1967 before the 1967–68 season. In this draft, 12 NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players. A player who had finished his four-year college eligibility was eligible for selection. If a player left college early, he would not be eligible for selection until his college class graduated. The first two picks in the draft belonged to the teams that finished last in each division, with the order determined by a coin flip. The Detroit Pistons won the coin flip and were awarded the first overall pick, while the Baltimore Bullets were awarded the second pick. 1966 National Invitation Tournament
The National Invitation Tournament was originated by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association in 1938. Responsibility for its administration was transferred two years later to local colleges, first known as the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball Committee and in 1948, as the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball Association (MIBA), which comprised representatives from five New York City schools: Fordham University, Manhattan College, New York University, St. John's University, and Wagner College. Originally all of the teams qualifying for the tournament were invited to New York City, and all games were played at Madison Square Garden. The tournament originally consisted of only 6 teams, which later expanded to 8 teams in 1941, 12 teams in 1949, 14 teams in 1965, 16 teams in 1968, 24 teams in 1979, 32 teams in 1980, and 40 teams from 2002 through 2006. Jeff Congdon
Jeffrey D. Congdon (born October 17, 1943) is an American former basketball player from Garden Grove, California. Career Congdon played college basketball at Brigham Young University with teammates Dick Nemelka and Craig Raymond. Congdon was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the fourth round (32nd pick overall) of the 1966 NBA draft. A 6'1" guard, Congdon played for the Anaheim Amigos during part of the 1967–68 American Basketball Association season. Congdon played the remainder of that season with the Denver Rockets, and remained with Denver during the 1968–69 and 1969–70 seasons. Congdon spent the 1970–71 seasons with the Utah Stars (who won the 1971 ABA Championship, though he was traded midseason) and New York Nets. Dick Nemelka
Richard Samuel Nemelka (October 1, 1943 – September 19, 2020) was an American professional basketball player for the American Basketball Association (ABA). As a college player, he earned All-American recognition at Brigham Young University (BYU). Early life and high school Nemelka was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He played basketball at Utah's West High School where he was an all-state selection. He also played shortstop on the varsity baseball team. College career Nemelka played in thirteen games for the BYU Cougars freshman team, averaging 16.2 points per game. Nemelka started every game for BYU his sophomore season, averaging 10.8 points per game. In his junior season at BYU, Nemelka averaged 15.4 points per game as BYU finished 21-7 and won the Western Athletic Conference championship. In basketball, an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads directly to a score by field goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the basket. In basketball, a rebound, sometimes colloquially referred to as a board, is a statistic awarded to a player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw. Rebounds in basketball are a routine part in the game; if a shot is successfully made possession of the ball will change, otherwise the rebound allows the defensive team to take possession.
