Cowichan Tribes
Cowichan Tribes ( hur, Quw’utsun) is the band government of the Cowichan, a group of Coast Salish peoples who live in the Cowichan Valley region on Vancouver Island. Cowichan-Alberni
Cowichan-Alberni was a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It appeared in the 1894 general election only. It was formed by combining the Alberni riding and parts of the older Cowichan riding. Alberni riding and Cowichan riding were restored for the 1898 election. Cowichan—Malahat—Langford
Cowichan—Malahat—Langford is a federal electoral district in British Columbia. It encompasses a portion of British Columbia previously included in the electoral districts of Nanaimo—Cowichan and Esquimalt—Juan de Fuca. Cowichan—Malahat—Langford was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. Nanaimo—Cowichan—The Islands
Nanaimo—Cowichan—The Islands was a federal electoral district—also known as a “riding”—in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1962 to 1979. This riding was created in 1962 from Nanaimo. The 1966 electoral redistribution saw this riding gain territory from Metchosin and lose territory in the northern end toward the Englishman River. This riding was dissolved into Cowichan—Malahat—The Islands and Nanaimo—Alberni in 1979. Cowichan (electoral District)
Cowichan was one of the first twelve electoral districts created when British Columbia became a Canadian province in 1871. It was located on southern Vancouver Island. Its last appearance on the husting was in 1920. It was then superseded by Cowichan-Newcastle, which appeared in provincial elections from 1924 to 1963, after which a revised riding is named Cowichan-Malahat. Duncan, British Columbia
Duncan (pop. 5,047 in 2021) is a city on southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is the smallest city by area (2.07 square kilometres, 0.8 square miles) in Canada. It was incorporated in 1912. Location The city is about 45 kilometres from both Victoria to the south and Nanaimo to the north. Although the City of Duncan has a population of just over 5,000, it serves the Cowichan Valley which has a population of approximately 84,000, many of whom live in North Cowichan and Cowichan Tribes. This gives Duncan a much larger perceived "greater" population than that contained within the city limits. People in areas of North Cowichan and bordering on Duncan usually use "Duncan" as their mailing address. Duncan has one seat on the Cowichan Valley Regional District Board.
