Anne Elizabeth Cowdrey, 14th Lady Herries of Terregles, Baroness Cowdrey of Tonbridge (''née'' Fitzalan-Howard; 12 June 1938 – 23 November 2014) was a British racehorse trainer and peeress. Early life and family Born Lady Anne Fitzalan-Howard on 12 June 1938, she was the eldest of four daughters of Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk and The Hon. Lavinia Strutt. She had three younger sisters: Mary (who succeeded her as 15th Lady Herries of Terregles), Sarah and Jane (presently 16th Lady Herries of Terregles). She grew up at the family seat Arundel Castle in West Sussex. She was educated at the Priory School at Arundel and the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Woldingham. Career From 1970 to 1979 she lived at Everingham in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where she was Master of Foxhounds for the Middleton Hunt, before returning to the Arundel area. Christopher Stuart Cowdrey (born 20 October 1957) is a former English cricketer. Cowdrey played for Kent, Glamorgan and England as an all-rounder. He is the eldest son of the cricketer and life peer, Colin Cowdrey, Baron Cowdrey of Tonbridge. He was educated at Tonbridge School. Life and career After a good season for Kent in County cricket in 1984, Cowdrey was selected for England's 1984–85 tour of India, led by his friend David Gower, ostensibly taking Ian Botham's place after Botham had opted out of the tour. In the First Test in Bombay he was fielding at short leg when Gower asked him to bowl. Although he forgot to take off his shin pads he bowled Kapil Dev with his fourth ball, the 19th England bowler to take a wicket in his first over. Michael Colin Cowdrey, Baron Cowdrey of Tonbridge, (24 December 19324 December 2000) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Oxford University (1952–1954), Kent County Cricket Club (1950–1976) and England (1954–1975). Universally known as Colin Cowdrey, he "delighted crowds throughout the world with his style and elegance",Graveney, p. 54 and was the first cricketer to play 100 Test matches, celebrating the occasion with 104 against Australia in 1968. Graham Robert Cowdrey (27 June 1964 – 10 November 2020) was an English cricketer. Biography Cowdrey was the third son of cricketer and life peer Colin Cowdrey, Baron Cowdrey of Tonbridge and his first wife Penny Chiesman. He was born in Farnborough in 1964 and educated at Wellesley House and Tonbridge School. After one year as a student at Hatfield College, Durham, Cowdrey chose to embark on a professional career. He played for Kent County Cricket Club as an attacking batsman in first-class and List A cricket from 1984 to 1998. In his 450 appearances for Kent, he scored over 14000 runs, with his best seasons in 1995 when he helped Kent reach the Benson & Hedges Cup final and win the Sunday League with a List A average of 53.90. Matthew John Cowdrey (born 22 December 1988) is an Australian politician and Paralympic swimmer. He presently holds numerous world records. He has a congenital amputation of his left arm; it stops just below the elbow. Cowdrey competed at the 2004 Paralympic Games, 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2008 Paralympic Games, 2010 Commonwealth Games, and the 2012 Paralympic Games. After the 2012 London Games, he is the most successful Australian Paralympian, having won thirteen Paralympic gold medals and twenty three Paralympic medals in total. On 10 February 2015, Cowdrey announced his retirement from swimming. Cowdrey contested and won the seat of Colton at the 2018 state election in South Australia for the Liberal Party. Cowdrey Cricket Club (CCC) (formerly Tonbridge Printers) is a cricket club based in Tonbridge, Kent, England. Cowdrey is an ECB Clubmark and Focus club. Cowdrey CC's Saturday 1st and 2nd XIs currently compete in Division 3 of their respective Kent Leagues. Thanks largely to Director of Coaching Gary Marshall, Cowdrey CC provides coaching and cricket for a large colts section. Up to one hundred youngsters train every week night during the summer, and the club's selection policy emphasises promoting youngsters wherever possible. A large number of first- and second-team cricketers today started out as junior members of the club. Cowdrey House
The Cowdrey House is a historic house at 1 Valley Street in Yellville, Arkansas. It is a -story wood-frame structure, with asymmetrical massing and a pyramidally-roofed turret typical of the Queen Anne style. Built in 1904, the house is particularly notable for its interior woodwork, which was made in Memphis, Tennessee and transported to Yellville for installation. It was built by J. S. Cowdrey, whose family were early settlers of the area and were involved in many local businesses. The Cowdreys hosted future President of the United States Herbert Hoover in 1927. The George Cowdrey House is a historic house at 42 High Street in Stoneham, Massachusetts. It was built about 1865 for George Cowdrey, a local shoe manufacturer and state legislator, and is one of the town's finest examples of residential Second Empire architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Description and history The George Cowdrey House stands near the crest of a hill northeast of Stoneham's Central Square, on the west side of High Street north of its junction with Cowdrey Street (which is also named for George Cowdrey). It is a modest two-story building, set on a large lot with a low stone retaining wall at the sidewalk. The house is covered with a mansard roof and has a clapboarded exterior.
