Coventry Sporting F.C.
Coventry Sporting Football, previously known as Coventry Amateurs Football Club, was an English association football club which participated in the Southern Football League and the FA Cup. History The club was formed in 1936 as the works team of the Coventry Tile Company, playing their home games at Butts Stadium, the former home of Coventry R.F.C. In 1946 the club's name changed to Coventry Amateurs, and two years later they moved to a new ground at Kirby's Corner. 1974 saw another rename, to Coventry Sporting, as the club turned semi-professional. By this point they were competing in the West Midlands Regional League. Sporting reached the First Round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in 1975–76, where they were drawn at home to Tranmere Rovers, then top of Division Four. Coventry ( or ) is a City status in the United Kingdom, city in the West Midlands (county), West Midlands, England. It is on the River Sherbourne. Coventry has been a large settlement for centuries, although it was not founded and given its city status until the Middle Ages. The city is governed by Coventry City Council. Central Amateur League
The Central Amateur League was an amateur football league in England, affiliated to the Amateur Football Alliance. It was established in 1935 with eight clubs, growing to twelve clubs in the 1937–38 season. The league folded in 1950; Non-League Archive Ibstock Penistone Rovers were the only club to play in the league for every season of its existence. Peterborough () is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, east of England. It is the largest part of the City of Peterborough unitary authority district (which covers a larger area than Peterborough itself). It was part of Northamptonshire until 1974, when county boundary change meant the city became part of Cambridgeshire instead. The city is north of London, on the River Nene which flows into the North Sea to the north-east. In 2020 the built-up area subdivision had an estimated population of 179,349. In 2021 the Unitary Authority area had a population of 215,671. Southern Football League
The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England. Together with the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League it forms levels seven and eight of the English football league system. The structure of the Southern League has changed several times since its formation in 1894, and currently there are 84 clubs which are divided into four divisions. The Central and South Divisions are at step 3 of the National League System (NLS), and are feeder divisions, mainly to the National League South but also to the National League North. Highfield Road
Highfield Road was a football stadium in the city of Coventry, England. It was the home ground for Coventry City F.C. for 106 years. History It was built in 1899 in the Hillfields district, close to the city centre, and staged its final game on 30 April 2005 when Coventry City beat Derby County 6–2 in the Football League Championship with the last goal appropriately being scored by Andy Whing, a product of Coventry City's youth academy. A concert by pop star Elton John was held at the stadium afterwards. The club then moved to the Ricoh Arena, at Foleshill in the north of the city. Highfield Road had one of the largest playing surfaces in the English leagues and was the English league's first all-seater stadium (the first all-seater in the UK was Clydebank's Kilbowie Park).
