Covema
Covema srl was a historic Italian company specializing in the design of plastic processing machinery, based in Milan, via Fontana 1. Founded in 1953 by the Terragni brothers, it also included the companies Corima spa, GBF spa, GBF iberica, RIAP srl, FIRS spa, Covepla Spain (specialized in thermosetting machines), Italproducts srl, Omam spa, TPA srl, AGRIPAK srl, Floraplant srl, Interfinance SA, Technical Die spa, Covema SAE. The technology that Covema has developed since the 1950s is merged into Agripak srl based in Milano and managed by the sons of Marco Terragni: Fabio Terragni (president), Patrizia Terragni and Massimo Terragni (managing directors). Marco Terragni
Marco Terragni (26 April 1930 – 29 June, 2006) was an Italian entrepreneur and inventor. In 1953, he founded Covema one of the biggest conglomerate in the world plastic sector along with Dino Terragni and Felice Zosi. Biography Marco Terragni was born in Paderno Dugnano to Cav.Ercole Terragni (born in Paderno Dugnano, 1889 and died in Paderno Dugnano, 1966) and from Enrichetta Strada (born in Palazzolo Milanese, 1896 and died in Paderno Dugnano, 1970). The father descended from a decayed noble family and carried out the agricultural activity. The family was in critical economic conditions and did not have money to guarantee education for its children. With the help of the nuns, he and his brothers managed to receive adequate education. Dino Terragni (10 September 1927 – Geneva, 21 June 1979) was an Italian entrepreneur and inventor, founder and president of Covema, Corima Spa, Plastiform Srl, GBF Italia Spa, GBF Iberica SA, Omam spa, Covepla SA, Covema SAE, Firs Spa, RIAP Srl, Floraplant Srl and Technical Dies Spa. He was an innovator in the production of machinery for plastic material processing. Cartonplast is a trademark that was first given by Covema spa (Italy) in the early seventies to a specific model of extrusion line manufactured and sold world wide by the aforesaid. Montecatini (company)
Montecatini was an important Italian chemicals company founded in 1888. It was called: ''quasi-monopolist of the Italian chemical industry'' in the time between World War I and the end of World War II. Problems led to a merger with the Edison company in 1966 forming the Montedison company. Raffia
Raffia palms (''Raphia'') are a genus of about twenty species of palms native to tropical regions of Africa, and especially Madagascar, with one species (''R. taedigera'') also occurring in Central and South America. Calendering
Calendering of textiles is a finishing process used to smooth, coat, or thin a material. With textiles, fabric is passed between calender rollers at high temperatures and pressures. Calendering is used on fabrics such as moire to produce its watered effect and also on cambric and some types of sateens. In preparation for calendering, the fabric is folded lengthwise with the front side, or face, inside, and stitched together along the edges. The fabric can be folded together at full width, however this is not done as often as it is more difficult. Paderno Dugnano (Milanese: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Milan, in Lombardy, northern Italy. Extrusion is a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile by pushing material through a die of the desired cross-section. Its two main advantages over other manufacturing processes are its ability to create very complex cross-sections; and to work materials that are brittle, because the material encounters only compressive and shear stresses.
