Courtland (RTA Rapid Transit Station)
Courtland station is a stop on the RTA light rail Green Line in Shaker Heights, Ohio, located in the median of Shaker Boulevard (Ohio State Route 87) at its intersection with Courtland Boulevard, after which the station is named. History The station opened on May 20, 1915, when rail service on what is now Shaker Boulevard was extended from Fontenay Road east to Courtland Boulevard. The extension included a wye extending southward on Courtland Boulevard to South Woodland Road to the entrance of the Shaker Heights Country Club. The new country club, which opened ten days later, was essentially a relocation of the Euclid Country Club, which was displaced from its location at the top of Cedar Glen Parkway when the Euclid Heights subdivision was developed. The rail line was built by Cleveland Interurban Railroad and initially operated by the Cleveland Railway. Courtland Township, Michigan
Courtland Township is a civil township of Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 7,678 at the 2010 census, which was an increase from 5,817 at the 2000 census. The township is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area and is located about northeast of the city of Grand Rapids. History The first settler in the area was Barton Johnson in 1838. He settled the community of Evans along a railway station on the early Toledo, Saginaw and Muskegon Railway. Johnson and Alexander Dean settled the community of Courtland Center in 1839. It was named after the township, which was organized in the same year. The community was given its own post office named Courtland from January 30, 1841 to November 10, 1860. Another post office named Courtland Center was in operation from October 24, 1856 until February 15, 1901. Courtland High School is a public high school located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Founded in 1980, Courtland currently has 1,174 students (2021-2022 school year). History Courtland High School was founded in 1980 as Spotsylvania County's second public high school, after Spotsylvania High School. Courtland High school got a new renovation in 2019, this renovation included renewing the office to look more modern and replacing the football field to a new blue field. The renovation also updated the stairwells to improve the look. Academics The school has good academics in terms of preparing students for advanced education. Courtland Center, formerly Eastland Mall, is an enclosed shopping mall in Burton, Michigan, a suburb of Flint, Michigan, United States. It opened in 1968, two years before the larger Genesee Valley Center on the other side of the Flint metropolitan area. Courtland Center includes four anchor stores: JCPenney, Dunham's Sports, Staples, and Jo-Ann Etc., plus an exhibit space operated by Sloan Museum. History In September 1964, the Burton Township board rezoned the property at the southeastern corner of East Court Street and Center Road from single family residential to commercial. Forest City Enterprises began building on the property after the rezoning on the Court Mall Center with expectations for a second quarter 1965 opening. Iona Island (New York)
Iona Island is a island of the Hudson River in the town of Stony Point, New York, on its west bank. The island is located approximately south of the Bear Mountain Bridge and is separated from the Hudson's western shore by mudflats and freshwater tidal marshes. It is part of Bear Mountain State Park, although it is occasionally listed separately as Iona Island State Park. From 1899 to 1947 the island was used as the Naval Ammunition Depot Iona Island. The island and its adjacent marsh were designated a National Natural Landmark in May 1974, and it is part of the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. It serves mainly as a bird sanctuary, particularly known as a winter nesting place for bald eagles. Courtland is a town in Lawrence County, Alabama, United States, and is included in the Decatur Metropolitan Area, as well as the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. The population was 609 at the 2010 census, down from 769 in 2000. History A small creek named Big Nance Creek runs through the town. The creek was named for a Cherokee chief who lived in the area when the first European settlers arrived. The current town is reportedly located on the site of the Native American village. Courtland began as a small settlement known as Ebenezer in the early 1800s. Its early settlers were wealthy planters mostly from Virginia, Tennessee, the Carolinas and Georgia.
