Coupe Femina
The Femina Cup or ''Coupe Femina'' was an award of 2000 francs established in 1910 by Pierre Lafitte, the publisher of French women's magazine ''Femina'', to honour women pilots. This French challenge was opened to women aviators only. About The Coupe Femina was awarded to the woman who, by sunset on 31 December each year, had made the longest flight, in time and distance, without landing. In 1910, Belgian pilot Hélène Dutrieu, the first winner, was lifted out of her airplane and carried on the shoulders of the spectators after she landed. It is often difficult to determine who the official winner was, since each temporary leader (e.g. Marie Marvingt in 1911) was referred to in several contemporary records as having "won" the cup, only to be superseded by the next temporary record. Raymonde de Laroche (22 August 1882 – 18 July 1919) was a French pilot, thought to be the first woman to pilot a plane. She became the world's first licensed female pilot on 8 March 1910. She received the 36th aeroplane pilot's licence issued by the Aeroclub de France, the world's first organization to issue pilot licences. At the time, pilot licences were only required for pilots operating aircraft for commercial purposes. Jeanne Aline Herveux, generally known as Jane Herveu, (1885–1955) was a pioneering French aviator who obtained her pilot's licence on 7 December 1910. Pierre Antoine Baptiste René Lafitte was a French journalist, publisher and editor born 3 May 1872 in Bordeaux and died 13 December 1938 in Paris. He innovated in illustrated press and popular novel formats in France. Early life Pierre Lafitte was born and raised in Bordeaux, son of Marie Alexandrine Arquier and Jean Lafitte, a merchant. At high school, he was passionate about bicycles and in undertaking a bachelor's degree, his ambition was to become a sports journalist. He joined the editorial staff of '' La Petite Gironde'', a local daily newspaper, then '' Véloce-sport'', a sports weekly, which he helped modernise and for which he covered the first Bordeaux-Paris cycle race in 1891. Marie Marvingt
Marie Marvingt (20 February 1875 – 14 December 1963) was a French athlete, mountaineer, aviator, and journalist. She won numerous prizes for her sporting achievements including those of swimming, cycling, mountain climbing, winter sports, ballooning, flying, riding, gymnastics, athletics, rifle shooting, and fencing. She was the first woman to climb many of the peaks in the French and Swiss Alps. She was a record-breaking balloonist, an aviator, and during World War I she became the first female combat pilot. She was also a qualified surgical nurse, was the first trained and certified flight nurse in the world, and worked for the establishment of air ambulance services throughout the world. In 1903 M. Château de Thierry de Beaumanoir named her the fiancée of danger, which newspapers used to describe her for the rest of her life.
