Jefferson, New York
Jefferson is a town in Schoharie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,285 at the 2000 census. The town is on the southwestern border of the county and is east of Oneonta. History The town was first settled around 1793 by New Englanders and was unoccupied by settlers during the American Revolution. In 1803, the town was created from part of the Town of Blenheim. The First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson and Parker 13-Sided Barn are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The West Branch of the Delaware River originates in Jefferson. The population was 1,495 at the 2000 census. Within the town of Fulton are the hamlets of Breakabeen and Fultonham. The town is in the center of the county and is also one of the larger towns in the county. Fulton is west of Albany. History The territory was in the realm of the Mohawk tribe. The town was first settled around 1715 after being purchased directly from local natives. Part of the early town was called Vroomansland after Adam Vrooman, the landowner. New York State Route 990V (NY 990V) is an east–west reference route in Schoharie County, New York, in the United States. It extends for from an intersection with NY 30 in the town of Gilboa to a junction with County Route 18 (CR 18) in the town of Conesville, where the road continues east as CR 3. Reference routes in New York are typically unsigned; however, NY 990V is fully signed with touring route markers. The road is a remnant of New York State Route 342, a route assigned as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York. The NY 342 designation was removed in the late 1940s; however, its former routing from Gilboa to Conesville remained a state highway and became NY 990V when the modern reference route system in New York was created.
