Leesburg, Florida
Leesburg is a city in central Florida. The population was 20,117 at the 2010 census. As of 2019, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 23,671. Leesburg is in Lake County, between Lake Harris and Lake Griffin, at the head of the Ocklawaha River. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lake–Sumter State College and Beacon College are located in Leesburg. History Leesburg was first settled in 1857 by Evander McIver Lee. Several of his brothers followed him to the area. One of them, Calvin Lee, was credited with giving the town its name. The city was incorporated in 1875, and was designated as the county seat of Sumter County for a time. Lake Mack-Forest Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Florida, United States. It contains the unincorporated communities of Forest Hills and Lake Mack Park. The population was 1,010 at the 2010 census, up from 989 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. In the early morning of February 2, 2007, a tornado touched down, destroying a large portion of the community as well as killing at least 14. Geography Lake Mack-Forest Hills is located in northeastern Lake County. The unincorporated community of Forest Hills is in the center of the CDP, surrounding a small lake of the same name. Altoona is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Florida, United States. The population was 89 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Altoona is located in northeastern Lake County at (28.965742, -81.648453). State Road 33 (SR 33) is a state highway running through Lake and Polk counties in Florida. Route description State Road 33 begins in Lakeland off U.S. Route 92 (US 92) east of the intersection with US 98 and heads north along the vicinity of the west bank of Lake Parker. North of there it curves to the northeast and has one of two interchanges with Interstate 4 (I-4). The first interchange (Exit 33) provides westbound access via North Socrum Loop Road ( CR 582), and eastbound access directly to SR 33. The route turns more to the east away from I-4, until it curves north at the northern terminus of Florida State Road 569. It has an encounter at the second interchange with I-4 (Exit 38) where it actually crosses under the interstate.
