County Hospital (film)
''County Hospital'' is a Laurel and Hardy short film made in 1932. It was directed by James Parrott, produced by Hal Roach and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Ollie is in hospital with a broken leg, Stan comes to visit and ends up getting Ollie kicked out; on the way home Stan crashes the car. Plot Ollie is in the county hospital with a broken leg. Stan pays him a visit (he did not have anything ''else'' to do) bearing a "thoughtful" gift of a bag of hard-boiled eggs and nuts. Ollie complains he cannot eat hard-boiled eggs or nuts and asks Stan why he did not bring a box of candy. Stan explains boxes of candy cost too much and that Ollie did not pay him for the last box he had brought him. While eating an egg, Stan knocks over a jug of water and Ollie hits him on the head with a bedpan. James Parrott
James Parrott (August 2, 1897 – May 10, 1939) was an American actor and film director; and the younger brother of film comedian Charley Chase. Biography Early years James Gibbons Parrott was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Charles and Blanche Thompson Parrott. In 1903, his father died from a heart attack, leaving the family in bad financial shape, which forced them to move in with a relative. Charley Jr. quit school, so he could go to work, in order to support his mother and brother. Eventually the call of the stage beckoned him, and Charley Jr. left home at age 16 to travel the vaudeville circuit as a singer and comedic performer. By the time James had reached his teens, he too, had quit school, and became involved with the street gangs of Baltimore. Dorothy Layton
Dorothy Layton (August 13, 1912 – June 4, 2009) was an American film actress of the early 1930s. Life Born as Dorothy Ann Wannenwetsch in Cincinnati, Ohio, Layton was selected as one of the "WAMPAS Baby Stars" for 1932. Layton acted in eight films in 1932 and 1933, appearing several times with Laurel and Hardy. She appeared in the films '' Chickens Come Home'' (1931), '' The Chimp'', '' County Hospital'', and '' Pack Up Your Troubles'' (all 1932). Her London ''Telegraph'' obituary described her as their "last great female stooge." The only film she made of any prominence, however, was '' Pick-Up'' (1933), which starred George Raft and Sylvia Sidney. In 1934, Layton left the motion picture industry and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she met and married Howard W. Laurel and Hardy were a British-American comedy duo act during the early Classical Hollywood era of American cinema, consisting of Englishman Stan Laurel (1890–1965) and American Oliver Hardy (1892–1957). Starting their career as a duo in the silent film era, they later successfully transitioned to "talkies". From the late 1920s to the mid-1950s, they were internationally famous for their slapstick comedy, with Laurel playing the clumsy, childlike friend to Hardy's pompous bully.
