County Buildings ( ga, Áras an Chontae, Cill Mhantáin) is a municipal facility in Whitegates, Wicklow, County Wicklow, Ireland. History Originally Wicklow County Council held its meetings in Wicklow Courthouse. The county council moved a new facility, known as County Buildings, in 1977. The new building was extended to take on a cruciform shape in 1999 and extended again to a design by the Building Design Partnership in 2006. A customer care unit, introducing touchscreen technology, was created in the foyer of the county buildings in spring 2019. Wicklow ( ; ga, Cill Mhantáin , meaning 'church of the toothless one'; non, Víkingaló) is the county town of County Wicklow in Ireland. It is located south of Dublin on the east coast of the island. According to the 2016 census, it has a population of 10,584. The town is to the east of the M11 route between Dublin and Wexford. It also has railway links to Dublin, Wexford, Arklow, and Rosslare Europort. There is also a commercial port for timber and textile imports. The River Vartry is the main river flowing through the town. Geography Wicklow town forms a rough semicircle around Wicklow harbour. To the immediate north lies 'The Murrough', a grassy walking area beside the sea, and the eastern coastal strip. Wicklow Courthouse
Wicklow Courthouse is a judicial facility in Wicklow, County Wicklow, Ireland. History The courthouse, which was designed in the neoclassical style and built in ashlar stone, was completed in 1824. It was altered to the designs of Henry Brett, County Surveyor, in 1866 and altered again to the designs of John Henry Brett, his son, in 1876. The design involved a symmetrical main frontage of nine bays facing onto the Market Square; the central section of three bays featured a Perron staircase leading up to a doorway; there were three blank panels on the first floor and three round headed windows on the second floor. Building Design Partnership Ltd, doing business as BDP, is a firm of architects and engineers employing over 900 staff in the United Kingdom and internationally. History BDP was founded in 1961 by George Grenfell-Baines with architects Bill White and John Wilkinson, quantity surveyor Arnold Towler and eight associate partners.
