Country Club Casino
Country Club Tasmania is a casino in Launceston, Tasmania, owned by Federal Hotels. It is Tasmania's second casino. It is also used for a variety of local events and is home to an 18-hole golf course. Targa Tasmania uses the casino as a starting point for the race. The casino licence was originally supposed to be granted to a rival to Federal Hotels, who own the license to the Hobart casino, as well as a monopoly over all poker machines in the state. However, through successful lobbying the license for the second casino was also given to Federal Hotels. The casino was soon dominated by over 500 poker machines on the floor. At the 2018 election, Rebecca White, the Labor opposition leader is promising to remove all pokies from pubs and clubs leaving the two casinos as the only location for pokies. Prospect Vale, Tasmania
Prospect Vale is a rural/residential locality in the local government areas (LGA) of Launceston (1%) and Meander Valley (99%) in the Launceston LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-west of the town of Launceston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 5067 for the state suburb of Prospect Vale. It is a small suburb of Greater Launceston. Prospect Vale has a small shopping centre, Prospect Vale Marketplace, containing a Woolworths supermarket and a small industrial park lies within its boundaries. Targa Tasmania
Targa Tasmania is a tarmac-based rally event held on the island state of Tasmania, Australia, annually since 1992. The event takes its name from the Targa Florio, a former motoring event held on the island of Sicily. The competition concept is drawn directly from the best features of the Mille Miglia, the Coupe des Alpes and the Tour de Corse. 2018 Tasmanian State Election
The 2018 Tasmanian state election was held on 3 March 2018 to elect all 25 members of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. The four-year incumbent Liberal government, led by Premier Will Hodgman, won a second consecutive term. It defeated the Labor Party, led by Opposition Leader Rebecca White, and the Greens, led by Cassy O'Connor. The Jacqui Lambie Network also competed in a state election for the first time, though the party did not win any seats and its leader Jacqui Lambie did not stand for election. The Tasmanian House of Assembly (the lower house) has five divisions with five members each for a total of 25 seats, 13 of which are required for a majority. William Edward Felix Hodgman (born 20 April 1969) is an Australian diplomat and former politician who has been the High Commissioner of Australia to Singapore since February 2021. He was the 45th Premier of Tasmania and a member for the Division of Franklin in the Tasmanian House of Assembly from the 2002 state election until his resignation in January 2020. He became premier following the 2014 state election, having been Leader of the Opposition since 2006. He was re-elected to a second term in government following victory in the 2018 state election. The Tasmanian casino referendum was a one-question referendum held on 14 December 1968, which concerned the granting of Australia's first casino licence to the Federal Group to operate the Wrest Point Hotel Casino in Sandy Bay. Background The Wrest Point Riviera hotel was purchased by the Federal Group in the 1960s, and the new owners approached Premier Eric Reece about the prospect of the Tasmanian government granting a licence to create an entertainment complex and convention centre that would contain a small casino on the premises, citing that it would attract tourists during Tasmania's traditional winter "tourist slump".
