Countess Bathory (song)
"Countess Bathory" is a song by English heavy metal band Venom. The song originally appeared on the band's 1982 album ''Black Metal'' as well as their 1986 live album '' Eine kleine Nachtmusik''. Writing and recording "Countess Bathory", like all songs on the album were written by vocalist and bassist Conrad "Cronos" Lant and guitarist Jeffrey "Mantas" Dunn. It was written when band drummer Tony "Abaddon" Bray was late for a session, so Dunn began jamming some new riffs while Lant would work the lyrics out. The bands roadie came in the room and began drumming for them, and soon after "Abaddon" would come in and tried to make up a new drum pattern, but Lant and Dunn felt the roadie's drum pattern worked best. Lant also explained the origin of the song's opening riff, saying that it was inspired by the opening theme song of the children's show ''The Magic Roundabout''. Unleashed is a Swedish death metal band that was formed in 1989 by Johnny Hedlund in Stockholm. Common lyrical themes found in the band's music include Viking culture, recollection of a pre-Christian world, and Norse folklore. A number of their recent songs also contain references to J. R. R. Necrodeath is an Italian extreme metal band from Liguria. It is one of the first extreme metal bands originating in Italy. Messiah Marcolin (born Bror Jan Alfredo Marcolin; 10 December 1967), also known as Eddie Marcolin, is a Swedish singer best known for his work in the epic doom metal band Candlemass. He is well known for his operatic voice and for his signature "Doom Dance", an exaggerated stomping motion. Biography 1984–1985 Marcolin's first releases were with the heavy metal band Mercy. After recording an EP, Mercy were looking for a singer to record with and Messiah was asked to join just two weeks before recording. He sang on two Mercy albums, the first a self-titled debut in 1984, and ''Witchburner'' a year later. "Bloodlust" is a single released by English speed metal band Venom on August 13, 1982 through Neat Records. It is the bands second single and the follow-up to their debut single " In League with Satan". Side B contains the song "In Nomine Satanas". Live versions of the songs appear on their 1986 live album '' Eine Kleine Nachtmusik'' as well as re-recorded versions of both songs with "Bloodlust" appearing on some versions of their ninth album ''Cast in Stone'' on a bonus disc of 10 re-recorded tracks, and "In Nomine Satanas" on a rare limited edition 1996 mini album. Both these versions were on the 2006 expanded edition of the album. Another version entitled "Bloodlust (Radio 1 Session)" would appear on the 2002 CD reissue of ''Black Metal''. Death is frequently imagined as a personified force.
