Counter Insurgency Force
Counter Insurgency Force or (CIF) A Police tactical unit of West Bengal Police with headquarters in Garia, West Bengal was created by the West Bengal state government in 2010 on the lines of Greyhounds in Andhra Pradesh to combat proscribed Naxalites/Maoists in the state. At least 1000 personnel from the state armed forces have been given commando training prior to inclusion in the CIF. The training center itself is located in Salua, and further field training is given at Salboni, both in West Bengal Midnapore district. Now it shifted to Durgapur. Trainees are shortlisted from common recruitment procedures. IGP (Armed Police) Vivek Sahay was given additional charge as IGP (Operations) in the force, while Assistant Director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy Ajoy Nanda has taken over as DIG (Training and Operations). West Bengal Police
The West Bengal Police is one of the two police forces of the Indian state of West Bengal. The other being the Kolkata Police, which has a separate jurisdiction across Kolkata. The West Bengal Police was reorganized under provisions of the Police Act 1861 during the British Raj. It is headed by an officer designated as the Director General of Police who reports to the State Government through the Home (Police) Department. Mallojula Koteswara Rao (26 November 1954 – 24 November 2011), commonly known by his ''nom de guerre'' Kishenji (), was an Indian political leader who was a Politburo and Central Military Commission member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), a banned revolutionary organization in India; and also the party's military leader. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) is the civil service training institution in India. The institute trains Indian Police Service (IPS) officers before they are sent to their respective state cadres to carry out their duties. The academy is in Shivrampalli, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Greyhounds is a police special forces unit of the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Police departments in India. Greyhounds specialises in counter-insurgency operations against Naxalite and Maoist terrorists. Several Indian paramilitary and police officers have described the Greyhounds as among the best anti-insurgency forces that specialises in anti-Maoist operations and as experts in jungle warfare.
