"Countdown" is a song by Rush from their 1982 album ''Signals''. Its lyrics are about the first launch of the Space Shuttle ''Columbia'' the previous year. The song incorporates audio from voice communications between astronauts John Young and Robert Crippen and ground control, specifically Ascent CAPCOM Daniel C. Rush (band)
Rush was a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in Toronto, that was comprised primarily of Geddy Lee (bass, vocals), Alex Lifeson (guitar), and Neil Peart (drums, percussion, lyricist). The band formed in Toronto in 1968 by Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey, and bass guitarist/vocalist Jeff Jones, who was immediately replaced by Lee. After Lee joined, the band went through several lineup configurations before arriving at its classic power trio lineup with the addition of Peart in July 1974, who replaced Rutsey four months after the release of their 1974 self-titled debut album; this lineup remained intact for the remainder of the band's career. Edward Michael "Mike"/"Spanky" Fincke (born March 14, 1967) is an American astronaut who formerly held the American record for the most time in space (381.6 days). His record was broken by Scott Kelly on October 16, 2015. Mike Fincke was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but considers its suburb Emsworth to be his hometown.
