Count Floyd
Count Floyd is a fictional character featured in television and played by comic actor Joe Flaherty. He is a fictional horror host in the tradition of TV hosts on local television in both the United States and Canada. The Count Floyd character originated on the Canadian sketch show '' SCTV'', but also later appeared on ''The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley'' (clips of which were used on '' Cartoon Planet''), as well as Rush’s '' Grace Under Pressure'' tour. The concept As originally conceived, Count Floyd was the alter-ego of another ''SCTV'' character: Floyd Robertson, co-anchor of the SCTV News (The name was a joke based on that of Canadian news anchor Lloyd Robertson, but other than the name and occupation Floyd Robertson bears no real resemblance to his real-life counterpart). Running Gag
A running gag, or running joke, is a literary device that takes the form of an amusing joke or a comical reference and appears repeatedly throughout a work of literature or other form of storytelling. Though they are similar, catchphrases are not considered to be running gags. Commander Tom Show
The ''Commander Tom Show'' was a children's television series that aired weekday afternoons on Channel 7 WKBW-TV in Buffalo, New York, premiering on December 20, 1965. The host of the show was Tom Jolls, who had joined WKBW as a weatherman earlier in 1965. When the show launched, it consisted of interstitial segments with Jolls shown around episodes of the '' Adventures of Superman'', a TV series that ran from 1952 till 1958. Dustmop the puppet (a dog) was introduced in 1967. An alligator puppet, Matty the Mod followed, along with the first female puppet Cecily Fripple, modeled after the American comedian Phyllis Diller. A similar appearing puppet was Cecily's evil sister Cecile. Jolls used his own puppets for the program and continued to hold possession of the puppets until his death. Tom Jolls
Tom Jolls (born August 16, 1933) is a retired television personality best known for his 34-year tenure at WKBW-TV in Buffalo, New York. At WKBW, Jolls hosted "The Weather Outside" segments during ''Eyewitness News'', performed many of the station's voiceovers, and served as children's host Commander Tom. Tom Jolls was born in Newfane, New York. Jolls grew up in Lockport, New York, where he worked at WUSJ from 1951 to 1962. He moved to Buffalo, working for WBEN (AM)/ TV, and in 1965 was effectively traded to WKBW-TV in exchange for Stan Barron; at WKBW, Jolls become the station's evening news weatherman.
