Council Of State Of Luxembourg
The Council of State ( lb, Staatsrot, french: Conseil d'État, german: Staatsrat) is an institution in Luxembourg that advises the national legislature, the Chamber of Deputies. Until 1 January 1997, it was also the country's supreme administrative court, but this function was ceded to the newly created Administrative Tribunal and Administrative Court. The Council of State was created by King-Grand Duke William III in the Coup of 1856. It was originally entirely appointed by the Grand Duke, but this was changed in 1866, and, despite the roll-back of many changes brought about by the coup, the Council of State has otherwise remained. Composition The Council of State is composed of twenty-one councillors, who are appointed by the Grand Duke. Of these, at least eleven must hold doctorates in law. Christian Social People's Party
The Christian Social People's Party ( lb, Chrëschtlech Sozial Vollekspartei, french: Parti populaire chrétien-social, german: Christlich Soziale Volkspartei), abbreviated to CSV or PCS, is the largest political party in Luxembourg. The party follows a Christian-democratic and conservative ideology and, like most parties in Luxembourg, is strongly pro-European. The CSV is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and the Centrist Democrat International (CDI). The CSV has been the largest party in the Chamber of Deputies since the party's formation, and currently holds 21 of 60 seats in the Chamber. The Greens ( lb, Déi Gréng, french: Les Verts, german: Die Grünen) is a green political party in Luxembourg. Party history 1983–93 The Luxembourgish Greens were founded on 23 June 1983 as Green Alternative Party (GAP). Among its founding members were people engaged in the peace movement and the movement against a nuclear power plant in Luxembourg. Many came from left socialist groups that had split from the LSAP and from the former maoist movement who had already in 1979 been involved in the electoral Alternative List - Resist. In the 1984 elections, the party got two seats in the Chamber of Deputies. In 1985, however the GAP split and its more conservative wing founded the Green List, Ecological Initiative (GLEI). ''Luxemburger Wort'' is a German-language Luxembourgish daily newspaper. There is an English edition named the ''Luxembourg Times''. History and profile ''Luxemburger Wort'' has been published since 1848. The paper was founded just three days after press censorship was abolished. The newspaper is mainly written in German, but includes small sections in both Luxembourgish and French. The paper is part of the Saint-Paul Luxembourg S.A. The paper is owned by the archbishopric and has a strong Catholic leaning. From its very foundation, the newspaper opposed the ''Volksfreund'', founded by Samuel Hirsch, and the ''Judenrabbiner'', as well as the subsidy for the Jewish congregation. President Of The Council Of State Of Luxembourg
The president of the Council of State is the leader of Luxembourg's Council of State. The president is appointed by the grand duke, along with two vice presidents, and the appointment lasts for one year (although it can be renewed). The president of the Council of State must be either a member of the Council of State or the grand duke himself. However, to date, the latter option has never been taken, and it has become convention that the grand duke cannot be the president. Note that the position has often been left vacant, so few of the successions were immediate.
