Cottie Arthur Burland
Cottie Arthur Burland (September 17, 1905 – 1983) was a British writer and researcher. He studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic, graduated from the University of Westminster, and spent much of his forty-year career spanning from 1925 to 1965, in the Department of Ethnography at the British Museum in London. In 1950 he became honorary curator for the The Abbey Arts Centre, Abbey Art Centre Museum in Hertfordshire. He briefly served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. Writing Burland's writing career covered such topics as art, mythology, ancient religions and primitive people and cultures, specifically the ancient Americas. He authored more than forty books and contributed to many others. During his long career Burland was a contributor to many publications, including the journal ''Natural History.'' The Abbey Arts Centre
The Abbey Arts Centre at 89 Park Road, New Barnet, England, was established in 1946 by William Ohly, an art dealer who ran the Berkeley Galleries in Davies Street, London. Early history The area was undeveloped fields until the later part of the nineteenth century when Park Road and other streets were laid out. What is now number 89 was one of the first houses built in Park Road when it was constructed in 1873 and was originally divided into two semi-detached houses. The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, becoming the first independent air force in the world, by regrouping the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). Following the Allied victory over the Central Powers in 1918, the RAF emerged as the largest air force in the world at the time.
