Cotner College
Cotner College, also known as Nebraska Christian University, is a former religious college located in present-day Lincoln, Nebraska, which was founded in 1889 by the Nebraska Christian Missionary Alliance. History In 1886, several local businessmen marketed 300 acres of land as free real estate for a college, hoping that a town would form around the college and increase the property value of their adjacent land holdings. In 1888, the Nebraska Christian Missionary Alliance, an affiliate of the Disciples of Christ, obtained the land and founded Nebraska Christian University in 1889. The following year, in 1890, the institution was renamed Cotner College in honor of Omaha resident Samuel Cotner, a major donor to the college. The town of Bethany Heights formed around the college and was incorporated in 1890. College View is a neighborhood in southeast Lincoln, Nebraska, United States which was previously a village in Lancaster County. History In 1891, Union College was founded southeast of nearby Lincoln and a small village formed around it. The first post office was established in College View in 1891. In 1892, the village had grown to around 1,000 residents and was incorporated as College View. During the second world war, Medical Recruits marched and trained in College View. There are pictures of soldiers such as Desmond T. Doss marching under the Clocktower on the Union College campus. In 1929, the population of College View had grown to 2,900 people. The city of Lincoln had grown southward and annexed College View in 1929. Since annexation, College View has become a vibrant neighborhood in Lincoln. Union College is a private Seventh-day Adventist college in Lincoln, Nebraska. Founded in 1891, it is owned and operated by the Mid-American Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The history of Lincoln, Nebraska began with the settlement of the village of Lancaster in 1856. The county of Lancaster was founded in 1859. Prior to settlement from the westward expansion of the United States, Plains Indians, descendants of indigenous peoples who occupied the area for thousands of years lived in and hunted along Salt Creek. Settlers first came to extract salt from the wild salt flats of Salt Creek. Nebraska was granted statehood March 1, 1867.
