Cotidiano Mujer
Cotidiano Mujer (Everyday Woman) is a Uruguayan feminist collective based in Montevideo. The group's mission is to contribute to promotion of social, cultural, and political change that works towards gender equity and democracy among women in Uruguay and Latin America. It has published a newspaper, as well as books and conference proceedings. The group has also presented a radio show and podcast. History Established in 1985, Cotidiano Mujer started out as a feminist magazine of the same name. In 1988 Cotidiano Mujer published a book ''Yo aborto, tú abortas, todas callamos'' (I have an abortion, you have an abortion, we all keep silent). In 1994 they launched a radio show, ''Nunca en Domingo'' (Never on Sunday). Initially produced and presented by all members of the collective, but as time went on Elena Fonseca took the lead. Montevideo
Montevideo () is the Capital city, capital and List of cities in Uruguay, largest city of Uruguay. According to the 2011 census, the city proper has a population of 1,319,108 (about one-third of the country's total population) in an area of . ''Cotidiano Mujer'' (Everyday Woman) was a Uruguayan magazine published by the feminist collective of the same name from 1985 to 2013. Its objectives were to discuss human rights and women's rights, and to give visibility to aspects of the daily lives of women. History The magazine ''Cotidiano Mujer'' was founded by Lilián Celiberti, , and Anna María Colucci at the end of the civic-military dictatorship of Uruguay, when Celiberti was released from prison. At that time there was a political and social effervescence linked to the democratic transition which facilitated the public visibility of a second feminist wave that was emerging in the country. This new feminist agenda sought to advance beyond formal civil and political rights, to examine the problems of everyday life, such as the distribution of work and power within families. Women's suffrage in Uruguay was practically established between 1917 and 1938. Women's suffrage was announced as a principle in the Constitution of Uruguay of 1917, and declared as law in a decree of 1932. The first national election in which women voted was the 1938 Uruguayan general election. History Uruguay's 1917 constitution announced the general right of women to vote and hold office at local and national levels in Uruguay. However, to become law, women's suffrage required a two-thirds majority in each legislative house. In 1919 the feminist Paulina Luisi established the Uruguayan Women's Suffrage Alliance, affiliated to the International Women's Suffrage Alliance, to push for women's suffrage.
