Costa Rica competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's fourteenth appearance at the Olympics, excluding four occasions from its national debut in 1936. Comité Olímpico de Costa Rica sent a total of 11 athletes to the Games, 8 men and 3 women, to compete in 6 sports. Three of its athletes made their second consecutive Olympic appearance, including marathon runner Gabriela Traña, who was also the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Costa Rica, however, failed to win a single Olympic medal for the third consecutive time. The men's triathlon was one of the triathlon events at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. It took place on 7 August 2012, featuring 55 men from 32 countries. It was the fourth appearance of an Olympic men's triathlon event since the first at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The race was around Hyde Park, a 1.42 km2 park in central London. The men's 58 kg competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held on 8 August, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the Taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition.
