Corwen East Railway Station
Corwen East railway station in the town of Corwen, Denbighshire, Wales, was a temporary station on the former Ruabon to Barmouth Line. It was the western terminus of the preserved Llangollen Railway from 2014 to 2018. History Corwen East station was opened on 22 October 2014 as the temporary western terminus of the Llangollen Railway. The first train was a private service for supporters of the Corwen Appeal. The first public service trains to Corwen East ran throughout the week commencing 27 October 2014 and at weekends until 9 November 2014. These first trains were considered a success, with nearly 4000 passengers travelling during the first ten days of trains to Corwen East. The first public services in 2015 ran during the Llangollen Railway's Winter Warmer event on 2–3 January. The first train ran using British Rail Class 104, Class 104 British railcars and diesel multiple units, DMU Nos. Corwen Railway Station
Corwen railway station was a railway station on the Ruabon to Barmouth Line, located in the town of Corwen in Denbighshire, Wales. Original station The first station to open was a temporary station to the east of the town, when the line from opened in October 1864. A permanent station was opened by the Great Western Railway in May 1865. The station had two platforms and a signal box, and was a passing place on the single track line. Corwen was also the southern terminus of the Denbigh, Ruthin and Corwen Railway (DR&CR), which ran from Rhyl via Denbigh and Ruthin to Corwen, opening in 1864. According to the Official Handbook of Stations, the following classes of traffic were being handled at this station in 1956: G, P, F, L, H and C and there was a 1-ton 10 cwt crane. British Rail Class 104
The British Rail Class 104 diesel multiple units were built by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company from 1957 to 1959. A product of British Rail's Modernisation Plan of 1954, the 104s were designed for general branch line and commuter routes. The first units ordered were for the London Midland Region, with the majority of the class for use in North West of England. The Class 110 was a re-engineered version of the 104 with more powerful engines, but did not last as long in service. The 104s had asbestos insulation removed during the 1970s.
