Chris Cortez
Christopher Michael Cortez (born July 24, 1988) is an American professional soccer forward. Career Youth and College Cortez, who is of Mexican descent, attended the Trabuco Hills High School, where he earned South Coast League first-team all-league honors as both a junior and a senior, and led his team to the South Coast League Championship in 2005. He played club soccer for Pateadores, and played one year of college soccer at the University of California, Berkeley, before signing with Chivas USA's youth academy. He went on to trial with Mexican side Pachuca in late 2010, before returning to the United States in early 2011 to train with Chivas USA's senior team. He participated in several of Chivas's preseason matches, and also played in the MLS Reserve Division, prior to officially turning professional. José Cortez
José Antonio Cortez (born May 27, 1975) is a former American football placekicker. He played for 10 National Football League (NFL) teams, as well as short stints in NFL Europe, the XFL, and the Arena Football League. His longest stints were two season stints with the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings. He played college football at Oregon State University. He is the first Salvadoran to play in the National Football League. Jorge Cortez
Jorge Cortez (born September 4, 1972) is a minor league baseball coach and former pitcher who was on Panama's roster in the 2006 World Baseball Classic and the 2009 World Baseball Classic. His last name is also spelled Cortes. In the 2001 Baseball World Cup, Cortez got a start against the Canadian team, holding them to four hits in innings. He pitched in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, going 1–1 with a 9.39 ERA. Along with three other players, Cortez was caught doping during the Intercontintal Cup, thus costing Panama their bronze medal. Cortez was banned from international play for two years. He was signed by the Cincinnati Reds and he played in their farm system in 2003. He played for the GCL Reds (two games), Potomac Cannons (five games), Chattanooga Lookouts (nine games) and Louisville Bats (one game), going a combined 1–3 with a 4.28 ERA in 17 games. Joe Cortez
Joe Cortez (born October 13, 1945) is an American former boxing referee who has officiated in many important world title bouts. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011. Biography Cortez is of Puerto Rican descent. He had a successful amateur boxing career, winning various Golden Gloves tournaments from 1960 to 1962. In 1963, Joe turned pro at the age of eighteen. He had a record of ten wins and one defeat as a professional boxer, and the loss was to Georgie Foster from Ohio. He retired from boxing after only eleven professional fights. Cortez moved to Puerto Rico in 1969, working at The El Conquistador Hotel there; he worked his way up to Executive Assistant manager. Living there, he became fluent in Spanish. Jody Cortez (born 1960) is an American studio musician. A drummer, Cortez began his professional career at the age of 21 as a member of Boz Scaggs' live band in 1981. Cortez played drums on glam metal band Cinderella (band), Cinderella's 1986 debut album ''Night Songs (Cinderella album), Night Songs'' after band drummer Jim Drnec was unable to complete the drum parts in studio and was fired. Fred Coury would later be hired as the band's permanent drummer. Though never an official member of Cinderella, the earliest pressing of ''Night Songs'' features a photo of Cortez on the back cover, though Coury was pictured on the album's front cover photo and listed as a band member in the liner notes. Joana Amorim Cortez dos Santos (born 11 January 1979) is a retired Brazilian tennis player. In her career, Cortez won seven singles and 26 doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit. Jayne Cortez (May 10, 1934 – December 28, 2012) was an African-American poet, activist, small press publisher and spoken-word performance artist whose voice is celebrated for its political, surrealistic and dynamic innovations in lyricism and visceral sound. Her writing is part of the canon of the Black Arts Movement. She was married to jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman (1954–64), and their son is jazz drummer Denardo Coleman. Gregorio Cortez
Gregorio Cortez Lira (June 22, 1875 – February 28, 1916) was born in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico on June 22, 1875 and became a folk hero to the border communities of the United States and Mexico. After an altercation in which he killed Sheriff W. T. (Brack) Morris, Cortez went on the run from the Texas Rangers for thirteen days. He became the target of the largest manhunt in U.S. history from June 14, 1901 to June 22, 1901. He was accused of murdering two sheriffs and finally convicted of horse theft. Celebrated by fellow Mexican-Americans for his ability to evade the authorities, as well as his impassioned words in court, Cortez's life was converted into a legend by people on the Rio Grande border.
