Armar Lowry Corry
Rear Admiral Armar Lowry Corry (1793 – 1 May 1855, in Paris) was a British naval officer. Naval career Corry entered the Royal Navy on 1 August 1805, became a Lieutenant on 28 April 1812, a Commander on 13 June 1815, and Captain on 23 July 1821. From 1835 to 1839 he was captain of HMS ''Barham'' on the coast of Spain and in 1844–45 served in the Channel Squadron as Captain of HMS ''Superb''. Promoted to Rear-Admiral on 8 March 1852, he was employed "in command of the Western Squadron" until 1853. He commanded the Channel Squadron from 24 May that year until February 1854, flying his flag in HMS ''Prince Regent'', captained by Frederick Hutton. He was then assigned as second-in-command to Vice-Admiral Sir Charles Napier, who was to command the British fleet in the Baltic. Montagu Corry, 1st Baron Rowton
Montagu William Lowry-Corry, 1st Baron Rowton, (8 October 1838 – 9 November 1903), also known as "Monty", was a British philanthropist and public servant, best known for serving as Benjamin Disraeli's private secretary from 1866 until the latter's death in 1881. Background and education Born in Grosvenor Square, London, Lowry-Corry was the second son of the Honourable Henry Lowry-Corry by his wife Lady Harriet, daughter of the 6th Earl of Shaftesbury. The social reformer, the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury, was his maternal uncle. He was educated at Harrow and at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was called to the Bar in 1863. He practised for three years on the Oxford Circuit. William Corry (Cincinnati Mayor)
William Corry (1779–1833) was a politician in the U.S. State of Ohio who was in the Ohio House of Representatives and was the Mayor of Cincinnati from 1815-1819. William Corry was born in Virginia. His father was killed at the Battle of King's Mountain in 1781. William stayed on his mother's farm and attended local schools until age 20. In 1798, he was invited by William McMillan, a relative, to come to Cincinnati. He lived with McMillan and studied law in his office. Greve 1904 : 440-441 Corry was admitted to the bar in 1803. After McMillan's death in 1804, Corry moved to Hamilton and associated with John Reily. When Reily became clerk of courts, Corry practiced alone until his marriage in 1810. Sir Trevor Corry, Baron of Poland (1724 – 1 September 1780) was an Irish merchant and diplomat who spent many years in Danzig (now known as Gdańsk), Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, where he acquired a considerable fortune. He acted as consul to Kings George II and George III in Danzig during the Seven Years' War and until his death in 1780. As consul, he was responsible for sending information to the Secretary of State in London. Many of the reports were concerning the complex political and military developments happening in and around Poland in general and at the port of Danzig in particular. Among many other things, he reported on the trade-in timber intended for the building of warships and on the crippling taxation being imposed on the city of Danzig. Thomas Hughes Corry
Thomas Hughes Corry (19 December 1859 – 9 August 1883) was an Irish botanist. He drowned at the age of 23 but was credited as a co-author of ''Flora of the North East of Ireland'' with S.A.Stewart. Life T. H. Corry was born in Belfast 19 December 1859. He studied botany at Cambridge and became Assistant to Cardale Babington. In 1877, as an undergraduate, he joined S.A. Stewart in the preparation of ''Flora of the North-east of Ireland.'' In 1879 he discovered '' Hieracium hypocharoides'' in Ireland. In August 1883, before he was 24, Corry, with a companion Charles Dickson, lost his life in a boating accident on Lough Gill. Corry's British specimens in the Ulster Museum are dated mainly 1881 - 1883 and are mostly from England. Corry is remembered as co-author of ''Flora of the North-east of Ireland'' which is still published in new editions. Stephen Corry (born 1951) is a British indigenous rights activist, better known as the CEO of Survival International. He was asked to lead the organisation in 1984. In 1993 he became the chairman of the Free Tibet Campaign and remains on its board. Biography Stephen Corry was born in Malaysia in 1951. He won a scholarship to Gresham's School, where he excelled in rifle shooting. At the age 16, he left school with the desire to travel and learn other languages. He is currently the Goalkeeping coach of Sydney United 58 in the NPL NSW. Paul Corry (born 3 February 1991) is an Irish former footballer who played with UCD, Sheffield Wednesday, Northampton Town and Shamrock Rovers. Career Corry grew up in Castleknock, Dublin, and attended Belvedere College. Corry has represented his country at various underage levels as well as being selected for the Republic of Ireland U-23 squad.
